Ska-punk royalty Sublime with Rome, hip-hop icons Cypress Hill, and reggae-rock party animals Pepper pool their crowd-pleasing talents to devise a surefire prescription for the summertime blues. Carrying on the legacy of legendary singer Bradley Nowell, dead-ringer Rome Ramirez leads Sublime with Rome through energetic numbers from its newest record, Yours Truly, as well as rock-radio mainstays, such as “Santeria” and “What I Got,” which still dominate airwaves with a contagiously laid-back attitude. Multiplatinum hip-hop group Cypress Hill continues to meld worldly genres and salute organic gardening in hits such as “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “Insane in the Brain.” Heading up the summer fun pack, the Hawaii and California hybrid of Pepper stomps and grinds with goodtime odes to love and pogo sticks, as heard in their song “Give It Up.” With general-admission tickets, fans can bring blankets or rent chairs to snag space in the festival seating area or graze and daze upon the lawn as upbeat tunes accentuate the sunshine.

Kicking off the 2012 season, both the men's and women's teams at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi storm lanes and drain buckets as they face off against the rest of the Southland Conference. Head Coach Robert Robinson plans to help his women's squad rebound from last year's setbacks and return them to 2010's deep run to the conference-tournament final. Junior guard Jessica Jammer paces her sneakered mates by dropping points that frequently total double digits, helping expand both the dreams and counting skills of aspiring athletes in the stands.

Billy’s Ice slings cold drinks and no-frills fare in a casual, open-air atmosphere infused with the notes of live musicians every night of the week. Diners fuel up for shows—which never charge a cover for patrons 21 and older—with Billy’s burgers, served simply without unnecessary accouterments such as caviar or gold-infused mustard. A selection of appetizers includes favorites such as chicken wings and jalapeño poppers. Within the barn-style building and spacious open-air patio, revelers grab a bite, sip libations from the full bar, or gaze at the spot on the moon where Neil Armstrong first body-slammed Buzz Aldrin. Billy's slings eats from 4 p.m. to midnight Monday–Thursday, noon to midnight on Friday and Sunday, and noon to 1 a.m. on Saturday.

A cozy restaurant by day and rocking concert venue by night, Cypress Creek Cafe pairs hearty casual American cuisine with jams from some of the Lone Star State's most promising bands. As far as the food goes, you'd be remiss to not try the country-fried chicken, chicken-fried steak, and black-bean tacos packed with cheese, avocado, and pico de gallo. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a homemade seasonal pie or a stack of pancakes during the popular weekend breakfast. Just down the hallway, the Buzzard Bar packs them in on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. The reason? Live blues, country, and rock performances that get the crowd moving.
