  • Marengo Ridge Golf Club
Marengo Ridge Golf Club, which began as a modest nine-hole course, endured a 25-year gap before taking full advantage of the surrounding landscape's diverse terrain and expanding into a sprawling 18-hole course. Course architect William James Spear broke ground on the front nine in 1963, designating a large, renovated cow barn as the first clubhouse and cleaving nine holes through densely wooded hills. This layout proved sufficient until a late ‘80s spike in the local caddy population—and business boom—made the addition of a back nine desirable. Construction began in 1988 and, two years later, a new nine-hole track opened for play, presenting golfers with a profound shift in scenery, as this layout was built on an expanse of open farmland. The old clubhouse lasted for three more years, but the awkward location and argyle-wearing cattle called for the construction of a new clubhouse to match the new 18-hole golf club. Today, golfers enjoy the diverse layout of the 18-hole course from the first hole, the longest par 4 on the course, to the last, a par 5 severe dogleg right. Water enters play on nine holes, including on the first six, creating the potential for an extending water break for thirsty golf carts. Course at a Glance: 18-hole, par 72 course Total length of 6,654 yards from the back tees Course rating of 72.5 from the back tees Course slope of 129 from the back tees Four sets of tees per hole Scorecard

  • Gulliver's Pizza
Even if Gulliver's ovens went cool and the warm-weather chatter on its back patio went silent, visitors would still be drawn through the unassuming fa?ade to witness the sights inside. Dozens of antique lamps from the 19th and early 20th centuries hang from the walls, casting a delicate light on the restaurant's cozy, wood-and-leather interior. Fortunately for hungry patrons, the kitchen continues to operate 47 years after its founding, quieting stomachs' growls with its take on Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. After slapping a mound of their housemade dough into the pan, chefs carefully contour the crust to leave thick, chewy edges and a thin, golden bottom?a tasty compromise for lovers of thin and thick pies. Next, layers of cheese, fresh veggies, and meats such as ham and homemade sausage form a base, covered by a zesty garlic sauce that earned praise from the Chicago Reader. Thin- and stuffed-crust pizzas round out pie offerings, and a tasty cornucopia of Italian soups, sandwiches, and entrees sates pizza-averse diners.

  • Charles Ifergan Salon and Day Spa
As he reported to Sheridan Road Magazine, Charles Ifergan took the first steps toward establishing his hairstyling empire at the age of 13, when he talked his way into a job at the chic Paris salon where his older brother worked. Just a decade later, he settled down in the Chicago area to establish the first of four salon locations and try to convince the John Hancock building to do something about its two glaring cowlicks, and his work has since garnered media features in publications such as Vogue and Marie Claire. Charles's continually educated stylists keep their deft fingers on the pulse of fashion trends, which they transform into edgy hairstyles for women and men. In addition to drenching hair in deep hydration with moroccan oil and texturizing coifs with Redken products, aestheticians venture to other corners of the body with a concise menu of spa services that includes facials, waxing, body wraps, and mani-pedis.

But Dr. Bhojani knows that even the most educated doctor is only as effective as his tools. That's why he outfits his office with some of the most modern dental equipment. Digital bite-wing and panoramic x-rays reveal issues such as cavities while emitting about 80% less radiation than conventional machines. His CEREC computer crafts ceramic crowns to restore damaged teeth in about one hour, which is much less time-consuming than a traditional tooth-coronation ceremony.
