BayView Event Center takes on the gustatory burden of planning parties, bridal events, or holiday gatherings with an expansive catering menu of gourmet appetizers and intricately arranged party platters. Soirees start on a bite-size note with starters that include an assortment of toasted and seasoned baguette canapés ($58 for 25 pieces), such as roasted pork dolloped with a savory jalapeño-and-blackberry marmalade. Salads and veggie, fruit, meat, cheese, and bread platters serve 12–18 people or 300–400 famished pixies. Deadliest catch the chilled Atlantic salmon plate ($75), a piscatorial trencher that dresses the eponymous fish as cold smoked lox with a dill-mustard sauce and capers, plank-grilled with mango salsa, and sous vide with a basil garlic-butter infusion. International dishes, such as the mediterranean platter ($90), inspire guests to pen odes to Grecian urns while munching on morsels such as spanakopita (miniature spinach pies), stuffed roma greek salad with an ouzo aioli, and beef and chicken gyro roulades with tzatziki sauce.
“Stocky.” Justin Yule remembers when others used this adjective to describe him, an observation he considered to be a nice way of saying that he was overweight. It wasn’t until his dad invited him to work out at the gym that Justin discovered a passion for fitness and a desire to chisel away the stockiness he carried. Since achieving his goals, he has kept up his fit physique more than 22 years.
Justin also channeled his passion into a bachelor’s of science in physical education with a concentration in adult fitness. He used his extensive training to devise the curriculum for Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp, which he also founded. Justin calls his program the “fitness revolution,” mainly because it breaks exercisers out of the tedious routines they often fall into at the gym or when their friend Sisyphus asks them to push his rock and promises he’ll only be gone for five minutes. Every one of Justin’s workout moves come in three levels, each scaled to challenge exercisers of different strengths and experience levels. He also relies heavily on body-weight resistance exercises, and coaches provide guidance and support to clients in reaching their goals.
Justin considers the most valuable part of his program to be the camaraderie that he encourages among his participants in and out of the boot-camp classroom. He organizes charity events and parties so that groups can mingle and become a cohesive unit working toward a single goal. To further ease his clients’ path to fitness, he also offers nutrition programs, online exercises and tips, and education in the form of newsletters and fitness books that he’s penned himself.
Ivy Cleaners keeps clothing clean and crisp with wet and dry cleaning services. The professionals analyze each garment prior to their wet cleaning treatments, determining each fabric’s composition and the degree of anger it bears for the loom it came from, in order to customize an appropriate water temperature, blend of detergents and conditioners, and agitation setting. Alongside traditional dry cleaning, the staff also handles leather, suede, wedding dresses, and bedding, and it offers pickup and delivery services so that pants don’t need to learn how to walk themselves home.
EmbroidMe puts the design power in the hands of its customers through the creation of custom-printed T-shirts using personalized text and high-quality images. Custom creations know no character limit, allowing patrons to experiment with the invention of new trendy catchphrases or arrive to a college-literature final with the entire text of Ulysses emblazoned on their torso. The company's direct, eco-friendly, water-based printing process transfers ink directly to fabric without adding texture, making it possible to print high-quality images and photographs that would otherwise be obscured by a high thread count. Customers can select artwork from EmbroidMe's extensive image library or upload original drawings of family members re-imagined as chickens to be forever immortalized on their unisex T-shirts.
For more than 30 years, dedicated staffers at All Seasons Cleaners' four locations have cleansed garments with green processes such as wet cleaning, which yields a 100% biodegradable discharge. At this Certified Environmental Dry Cleaner, the diligent workers ready threads for same-day store pickup, or retrieve clothes from homes with their twice-weekly deliveries.
The cleaning extends to laundry services, washing towels, clothes, and household fabrics such as quilts and drapery with environmentally friendly detergents. At the Crystal store's laundromat, washers and dryers handle up to 60 and 80 pounds respectively, and a soap machine doles out soap, bleach, dryer sheets, and rubber duckies to calm down nervous pants. The cleaning pros also tend to specialty items such as costumes, leathers, and wedding gowns, keeping delicate garments safe with hand-cleaning, hand-pressing, and acid-free products.
