Led by a co-ed team of experienced coaches, Crossfit South Bend cultivates a supportive community of fitness seekers. Designed by exercise expert Greg Glassman, Crossfit aims to get bodies into shape with a system of constantly changing functional movements, such as pushing, pulling, running, or levitating, all executed at a high intensity.
After meeting with a trainer to discuss goals and physical condition, students ease into the program through the on-ramp course, laboring through increasingly difficult exercises while paving the way for chiseled physiques. Once initiated, clients leap headlong into a packed schedule of group sessions, heaving kettlebells and flipping tires, or even representing Crossfit South Bend in sports and strength contests.
When Roald Dahl wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he imagined a much-coveted golden ticket that granted access to myriad wonders and unveiled the inner workings of an entire industry. Adele Fridman, founder of MetaBody, created a real-life version of that ticket with her MetaBody Yoga & Fitness Pass, though it applies to fitness instead of candy. The pass grants access not to a single gym but to classes at a variety of local studios, specializing in everything from yoga to boot camp. With the freedom to move from location to location, students can sample different regimens, instructors, and styles of exercise to cobble together a program that fits their needs and goals. MetaBody's nutritionists supplement class packages by coaching clients in healthy eating, recipe cooking, and speed-reading nutrition-fact labels.
In their no-nonsense gym, certified CrossFit trainers Dan Moss and Darin Moon lead intense, fat-blasting workouts that focus on functional movements and varied exercises. It's a method that works every muscle group, sheds weight, and inclusive, scaling up or down to all fitness levels and body types. During one-hour sessions, Dan and Darin motivate fitness enthusiasts to shimmy up ropes, heave heavy barbells, and hop on and off plyometric boxes in preparation for visits to Q*bert's home. Their schedule accommodates students Monday through Saturday, with each membership package including unlimited workout sessions and one-on-on attention.
At Inner Strength CrossFit, instructors create a cooperative and supportive environment for building dynamic strength and fitness. Certified instructor Nick Kirkes slowly ramps up incoming students, teaching CrossFit’s approach to fitness and introducing the system’s core moves over the course of several foundational classes. Athletes can then pursue new goals for power, agility, and balance as they pull weight sleds, bound through box jumps, and hurl medicine balls.
CrossFit facilities are known for their rotating selection of high-intensity daily workouts, and it’s no different at CrossFit Zionsville. Each morning, the instructors unveil a new workout made up of functional movements such as box jumps, squats, rowing, running, pushups, and pull-ups. Each movement is to be completed as quickly as possible while maintaining proper lifting form and grunting in falsetto. For new exercisers, CrossFit Zionsville’s staff offers an introductory Fundamentals program.
The Fitness Group doesn't hide its love for the Les Mills brand of fitness. The varied class schedule includes everything from the original BodyPump class, which is a high-rep, low-weight barbell workout, to offshoots such as BodyAttack, a sports-inspired cardio workout, and CXWorx, which focuses on strengthening the core and improving functional fitness. Whatever class they're leading, the instructors focus on helping exercisers have fun while still challenging them to push their fitness limit.
