Spiece Fitness is like the exercise world’s Library of Alexandria, holding a vast catalogue of more than 70,000 square feet of cardio and strength-training equipment. And much like the ancient library, Spiece Fitness also houses sweeping hardwood basketball courts and a 25-yard pool. To help navigate the sprawling array, certified fitness trainers walk guests through operating the equipment or direct them to the saunas. In three exercise studios, they lead fitness-seekers through personal-training sessions and a variety of energetic group classes—including Pilates, Zumba, and spinning. Meanwhile, coaches oversee adult and youth basketball games along the four hardwood courts as runners race around an indoor track. After workouts, jog-weary exercisers can replenish over protein shakes at the onsite bistro or unwind with massages in the day spa.
The fitness center is housed in the famous Spiece Fieldhouse—a 150,000-square-oot facility that is home to a variety of diverse tenants—from a martial arts studio to a hair salon. The walls of the facility pop with rare autographed jerseys and more than 200 autographed Hollywood collectables, and marble statues and antique furniture make playing paintball games virtually impossible. The Fieldhouse has played host to a variety of visiting celebrities, including Michael Jordan, a famous basketball player.
Pocahontas Swim Club cements social bonds each summer, welcoming guests of all ages to swim, dive, and lounge in its 25-meter, six-lane pool. The family-oriented space prompts its patrons forget the heat as they time their laps or clamber aboard pool toys. To accommodate activities beyond swimming, the club surrounds its aquatic attraction with other amenities, including a shaded wading pool for youngsters, a covered picnic area complete with grill, and a sand-volleyball court. Party-planners can reserve these spaces for private barbecues and birthday get-togethers. While pool visitors practice their strokes, a seasoned staff oversees all amphibious endeavors. Coaches channel their own competitive experience to motivate swim- and dive-team members, and nurturing teachers guide students of all skill levels—from first-timers to athletes whose butterfly stroke hasn't gone completely airborne—during swim lessons. The swim club also gains considerable star power for summer 2012, when 1976 Olympic gold medalist Matt Vogel joins the team to manage the pool and assist the team trainers.
The instructors at ASP Diving train every day of the week so they can bring the most current knowledge to their students. They offer a full menu of courses that range from PADI open-water scuba certification to other specialty certifications such as cave diving, ice diving, and wreck diving. They also service and repair equipment at the shop, or allow customers to peruse a vast line of gear and apparel from brands such as Trident, Dive Rite, and Scuba Pro.
A classic lazy river drifts in a circle around Splash House Water Park's more than 30,000 square feet of deck as visitors soak in the sun in between dips in the water. An undulating wave pool tosses tube-riding swimmers to and fro, and twin waterslides whip riders in high-speed loops before firing them out into a pool of water or a misplaced Super Big Gulp container. Younger visitors frolic in the semi-submerged kids' play zone, constructed of nets, colorful piping, and bright yellow platforms with hidden, water-spewing spouts. Concession stands fuel the continuous fun with cool drinks, hot eats, and room-temperature napkins.
Oasis Hot Tub Gardens instantly transports visitors on mini vacations to other parts of the globe. Each private area?some indoor and some outdoor?takes on a theme of an exotic oasis, from the Isle Royale to a beautiful garden in Japan to the wild hot tubs that grow in the world's secluded forests. Those all become the backdrops for hours of relaxation within hot waters, which stay at a comfortable 102 degrees during the Fall and Winter and 96?100 degrees in Spring and Summer. Should customers need anything, say a change in tub temperature, all they need to do is make a request over the room's intercom?never having to leave their tiny slice of paradise. The private suites house other comforts too, namely stereos, dressing areas, and showers.
