  • Sasha Bruce Youthwork
In 1974, homeless youth were congregating in Georgetown and Dupont Circle. Deborah Shore founded Sasha Bruce Youthwork to bring counseling to these teens. The organization's first home was a donated basement in Georgetown, and its first shelter was donated in memory of Sasha Bruce, who volunteered with local youth while she was in school. Today, Sasha Bruce Youthwork improves the lives of youth who have run away or are homeless, abused, or neglected. Its counselors focus on identifying the strengths of its youth participants and empowering them to work toward more stable futures. Professionals run 18 programs throughout the city that provide shelter, counseling, life-skills training, and development activities.

  • The Ugly Mug
District 2 Bar & Grille District 2 Bar & Grille celebrates all things athletic, with special attention paid to college and professional football. Glasses and towers of beer slake thirst, while the full spectrum of hunger levels can be squelched with house chili, fish 'n' chips, and signature DRG burgers topped with ham and honey barbecue. Themed evenings?which might include karaoke or poker?add to the entertainment. Jake's American Grille The "Boiler Room" inside Jake's American Grille looks like something out of a sport's fan's wildest, most buffalo wing-filled dreams. Nine televisions surround the downstairs space, where you can cheer on your team or break for pool and video games. Beer flows from the taps here as well as in the upstairs bar, where bartenders pour Miller and Blue Moon into individual glasses or beer towers for groups to dispense at their leisure. The brews complement classic American cuisine such as steak, seafood, and burgers. And the decor is fittingly patriotic as well?Navy motifs throughout the space pay tribute to the restaurant's namesake, the owner's grandfather Edwin "Jake" Jablonski.

  • 100 Montaditos - DC Area Locations
When the first 100 Montaditos opened in the Spanish seaside town of Islantilla in 2000, the owners had in mind a vision of recreating the classical comfort of old-fashioned Spanish taverns. What they didn't realize was that they were about to start a worldwide phenomenon. Today, more than 300 outposts of 100 Montaditos have opened on three continents, and it's all thanks to their titular menu item?and its 100 variations. A montadito is a small sandwich, about as long as a finger and as wide as a giant's finger, stuffed with fresh, Spanish tapas-inspired ingredients. Diners build their meal from a selection of the bite-sized sandwiches off a menu that includes serrano ham, manchego cheese, and a variety of other toppings. Sampler plates let you taste a few popular montaditos in one easy order: the Meat Lover combination, for one, includes the Chorizo sandwich, the Meatballs sandwich with marinara, and four others. Everything goes down all that much smoother with a crisp glass of Spanish beer, fresh and fruity sangria, or other Spanish mixers.
