The Thunder Over Utah Air Show celebrates its inaugural weekend by scorching the sky with supersonic maneuvers and stockpiling funds for local community organizations. Throughout the two-day event, St. George's towering red mountains carve out a breathtaking backdrop as aircraft launch into lower orbit to boom over the heads of spectators and melt clouds into manageable marshmallows. From general-admission seats, awestruck attendees can trace the Hornet planes of the world-renowned Blue Angels, study the sturdy WWII assembly of a P-51 Mustang, and marvel at the multi-mission MV-22 Osprey, whose vertical flight mimics that of a helicopter or magician stuck on levitate.

Gold’s Gym lures fitness seekers from all walks of life with cardio decks, strength-training equipment, and aerobics rooms filled with energizing classes. Instead of reciting Shakespearean monologues as they jog and pedal, guests can watch movies in a cardio theater lined with treadmills, bikes, and an oversize projection screen. Free weights encourage biceps to bulge, and resistance machines tone arms, abs, and legs. Sports lovers dribble basketballs and volley racquetballs on shiny courts (available at most locations), raising their heart rates as they hone hand-eye coordination. Like the nightly news, Zumba classes take an hour and set Latin-inspired dance moves that vaporize calories to vibrant world music, along with a slew of available selections, including cardio and spin classes. Consult each location’s webpage for a class schedule and a list of additional amenities, which range from childcare to personal training (not included in today’s Groupon).

If you're near a traversable waterway in Utah on a sunny summer day, chances are good that you'll run someone gliding along on a stand-up paddleboard. Many of these watery wayfarers travel courtesy of board's rented out by Paddleboard in Utah's extensive network of local affiliates. The outposts unlock access to some of the best boarding sites in and around Salt Lake City; The Lodge at Stillwater welcomes guests eager to explore the Jordanelle Reservoir, while Lindon Marina serves as a jumping-off point for Utah Lake's extensive wetlands. Some, such as Gonzo Boat Rentals and Tours, pull double duty, operating shops at both Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake State Marina. Others, such as On The Pond Fitness and Rentals, pair their rentals with fitness routines performed atop the waters of Willard Bay State Park. While most of the shops remain close to greater SLC, at least one encourages more far-ranging expeditions; situated near Cedar City along the state's southern border, DIG Paddlesports helps travelers access the inviting waters of Sand Hollow and Quail Creek State Parks.

To get the best view of the desert, you don't walk through it; you glide over it. The 2,500 feet of combined ziplines at Kanab Zipline let customers do just that. The three-zipline course sends riders zooming across scenic canyons, gullys, and the Pink Cliffs as they descend 1,000 feet from the tops of cliff to ground level. The entire course area sits on an undisturbed stretch of desert, and staff do their best to minimize their impact by creating paths that avoid displacing the area's natural wildlife and postcard photo-shoots.

Sculpted against a backdrop of desert scrubland and sandstone mountain crags, the verdant fairways of Conestoga Golf Club can seem, at first glance, like alien guests. But course designer Gary Panks merged these disparate features into a seamless landscape, where rocky outcrops circle greens like seats at an amphitheater, fairways rise and fall along with the canyon depths, and a solitary water hazard protects the green on the par-three tenth and gives thirsty carts a chance to rehydrate in the middle of the round. The course?which measures a titanic 7,232 yards from the tips?has earned a host of glowing reviews and awards from outlets including Golf Magazine, Golf Week,, and Links Magazine.

Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 72 course * Length of 7,232 yards from the tips * Course rating of 74.9 from the tips * Slope rating of 147 from the tips * Seven tee options * Scorecard
