Explorer Diving's seasoned instructors––many with NAUI, TDI, SDI, and PADI certifications––submerge aspiring divers in adventuresome waters and scuba know-how during their series of fun and intensive classes. Their introductory scuba and snorkelling courses get participants' gills wet in the fundamentals of underwater inhalation and appeasing sea-monkey royalty; a slew of advanced courses torpedoes more experienced divers toward open-water, dive-master, and night-diver mastery. Explorer Diving also rents out and sells various scuba equipment and refills empty air tanks.
Snow Ridge Ski Resort offers skiers and snowboarders 130 acres of snowy mountain terrain with 500 feet of vertical drop. A terrain park features a gauntlet of rails and boxes designed for grinding, jumping, and mid-air wardrobe changes.
The resort is also home to a PSIA-certified ski school, where kids as young as 3 learn the ins and outs of proper downhill technique through instructional games and props. For a snapshot of current conditions at the resort, check out the ski report, which includes information on recent snowfall, the percentage of open terrain, and the number of lifts in operation.
A nonprofit joint venture of The Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and YMCA of Kingston, RKY Camp has cultivated independent thinking and teamwork through adventure since 1929. Camp Director Christina Bonner works tirelessly to develop RKY's popular youth summer camp as well as a year-round program of outdoor education that is aligned with the Ontario Curriculum for Science and Technology. Corporate, family, and school groups frequently escape to the camp's leafy trails and modern cabins to discover healthful relaxation and bonding through activities designed to boost self-esteem and develop a better appreciation for the natural world. A recent collaboration with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award also enables young adults to earn credit toward the internationally recognized honour, which is bestowed upon students who meet goals in the areas of community service, skill development, adventure, and sceptre ownership.
The camp's heavily forested grounds lie about 45 minutes north of Kingston, and lure visitors with modern conveniences and equipment that transforms nearby Eagle Lake, rock faces, and the area's indigenous tennis courts into natural sports arenas. With many former YMCA campers among their ranks, the staff professes a strong commitment to youth development, and fosters an environment of emotional and physical safety by adhering to standards governing all YMCA camps and accredited members of the Ontario Camping Association.
When the founders of Adirondack River Outfitters first took their raft to the shores of Moose River, they didn't know it was widely renowned as one of the wildest, most intense waterway in the region. The spirited New Yorkers were just looking for adventure, fun, and a means to explore their homeland's natural beauty. After falling in love with the river's tumultuous rapids and scenic surrounding wilderness, the trailblazers began honing their rafting skills with regular trips, eventually bringing their friends and family along for the ride.
More than three decades later, the group of adventurous guides continues to lead tours down Moose River. The guides, however, have since expanded their inventory of trips to include three other major New York rivers, each characterized by unique classes of rapids and magnificent rural backdrops. A cheerful bunch, the guides always end trips with a homemade barbecue, along with thrilling stories, good-hearted jokes, and impressive recitations of the first 34 digits of pi.
Located at the Syracuse Kickball Park, Jim and Rocks' Super Sub Shop helps fuel friendly competition amongst the players at the park's newly renovated 18-hole mini-golf course. Whole or half-sized cold subs are built upon a choice of a white or wheat roll, which is then piled high with homemade chicken salad, pastrami and provolone, or smoked turkey or ham. Those looking for a warm meal can peruse a selection of hot subs including a grilled cheesesteak and a chili dog smothered in cheddar cheese and sauerkraut, while light lunchers can enjoy their favorite sub meats and cheeses sans bun in a custom salad served with a choice of dressing. The sub shop also encourages snacking between rounds with munchies such as onion rings, fried mushrooms, and popcorn chicken carved right off the cob.
