The most practiced students at YogAsylum are not the ones who can touch their toes—they’re the ones who know how far they can safely reach. Fueled by the belief that yoga is an individual experience, the instructors prioritize personal exploration of physical limits over competition. They put this principle into action while leading classes that accommodate guests of any experience level and cover styles such as Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Hatha. Using provided props, bolsters, and blankets, they help students ease their bodies into more challenging poses. Because they advocate a holistic approach to spiritual health, they offer more than drop-in classes—they provide energy healing and spiritual counseling in addition to therapeutic massage in their wellness center. They also hold musical events, special workshops, and a registered Yoga Alliance teacher training program that has been approved by the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board.
YogAsylum is one of the largest studios in Wisconsin, and was built from scratch to incorporate eco-friendly principles and elements of feng shui. Its cork floors diminish joint discomfort in students stretching beneath energy-efficient bulbs, and movable walls can easily resize the space to accommodate bigger groups and alter the difficulty of life-size games of Pong.
At Absolute Pilates, certified instructors guide exercisers through a series of controlled stretches, extensions, and other moves that rely on body weight and gravity to add muscle-toning resistance. Atop floor-laid mats, pupils learn Pilates’s precise, muscle-group-isolating techniques that work to straighten posture, fortify core muscles, and tone limbs without piling on huge bulk and its attendant purple shorts. The studio's warm yellow walls, natural lighting, and wood floors create a cheery and calming atmosphere for students in group or private lessons.
Amid inspiring hues of gold and fuchsia and a polished hardwood floor, yogis at Jewel in the Lotus Yoga invigorate their bodies and minds with expressive postures and meditative practices. Jewel in the Lotus' teachers bring a diversity of experience levels, certifications, and specialties as they lead daily classes spanning a wide range of yoga traditions, such as Vinyasa and Ashtanga classes, Prana flow classes that combine breathing, meditation, and movement, as well as two-hour master classes for the truly dedicated yogi. Creative director Aubree Saia also offers in-depth sessions to help students to heighten their physical and spiritual practice, with themes including acroyoga, transformational breathing, and learning to massage your head with your feet.
Every Friday, Bliss Flow Yoga hosts a happy hour yoga class that accompanies poses with healthy pastries and mocktinis. It’s all part of the comfortable, beginner-friendly environment created by owner Angela Gargano, whose work has been featured in the press by the likes of the New York Times and the Wisconsin State Journal. Angela heads a staff of supremely qualified and certified instructors, each of who boasts a minimum of 200 hours of training. Together, Angela and the Bliss Flow team distribute their talents across a packed schedule, which includes daily classes and a weekly Basics Class designed specifically for newcomers.
Inner Fire Yoga is open 365 days a year with a welcoming schedule that offers more than 60 classes a week. The stretch-savvy studio is a custom-built space that adheres to the US Green Building Council's LEED guidelines for sustainable energy use, unlike many commercial yoga studios that are run on top of a Hummer fleet whose sound system has been replaced by window-unit air conditioners from 1996. A wide range of heated yoga styles is available within, including power flow yoga, a challenging blend that detoxifies through sweat and flexifies through deep stretching; hot yoga, a 90-minute hatha yoga class that incorporates 26 postures and two breathing exercises for a full mind-body workout; and inner fire flow, a sequence of set yoga postures that combines classic poses with a power flow.
