Christopher Schvetz made All-American 10 times during his high-school swimming career. In college, he replaced his passion for swimming with mixed martial arts, which led to training and competition opportunities as far away as Thailand. At PFD Crossfit, Christopher draws on his diverse sports background to emphasize well-rounded athleticism in all his clients. He relies on intensive CrossFit workouts to train students in all athletic categories, from strength and speed to balance and cardiovascular endurance. To make sure each pupil receives individualized attention, Christopher and his colleague Nathan Condella keep their classes small, from one-on-one sessions to groups of up to 15 students. Those larger sessions focus primarily on strength work with barbells and dumbbells, as well as cardio exercises with kettlebells and gymnastic rings.
CrossFit 608's certified CrossFit trainers lead daily workouts that take the repetition out of exercise, challenging participants of all fitness levels with exercises scaled to each individual's capabilities. On any given day, visitors may lift weights, run, row, or do squats. CrossFit Roscoe’s trio of high-energy trainers harnesses their CrossFit Level 1 certifications to help clients achieve their fitness goals. The team designs new workouts each day that reflect CrossFit’s principles of varied, functional fitness exercises. Though the workouts change from day to day, they often include moves such as weightlifting, running, rowing, gymnastics-inspired exercises, and less conventional exercises such as sled pushing and tire flipping.
Certified CrossFit instructor and NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist Josh Maney aims to help clients take on new challenges in their workout regiment. As a former player on University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's national champion football team, he motivates exercisers through the CrossFit Consumed’s Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics-infused workouts included with gym memberships to help them reach their fitness peaks. The major lifts—dead lift, squat, clean, presses, C&J, and snatch—work a variety of muscle groups. To prepare for his Army training, CrossFit Waukesha's Coach Ryan first sought out several personal trainers. When their regimens didn't have the desired effects, he decided to take his health—and subsequently, that of others—into his own hands. By running CrossFit Waukesha, Ryan is able to lift, run, and toss medicine balls alongside his students. He leads classes whose movements are scalable to all skill levels, utilizing tools such as pull-up bars, barbells, and gymnastic rings to craft ever-varied routines. His expertise as an ACSM-certified trainer complements his devotion to the CrossFit method—exercises that mimic real-life movements, performed at a high intensity for functional fitness.
At CrossFit 262, John Schmidt—an NCSA certified coach and former All-American wrestler—does the same exercises as a child or a senior citizen. That's because CrossFit varies its workouts by intensity, but not by skill level. During introductory CrossFit 101 sessions, John and the rest of the staff teach newcomers all of the prerequisite movements for classes, including deadlifts, squats, cleans, and rope-climbing. The gym also hosts CrossFit Unloaded classes, which utilize lighter weights and don't require the CrossFit 101 series as a prerequisite.
