Kami Woodbury, an alum of the Douglas J Aveda Institute, keeps her passion for beauty burning at the recently renovated Modern Concepts Salon & Spa. She first opened in 2002 and moved in 2011 to a new space, where she surrounds herself with a staff of equally dedicated stylists, nail techs, and massage therapists. They foster a tranquil and upbeat environment in which they snip new ‘dos, pamper extremities with Shellac mani-pedis, and banish unwanted fuzz with waxing treatments. Luxuriating guests with complete makeovers, the skincare experts nourish expression palettes with facials and peels and render muscles free of stress with a variety of massage modalities and sweetly cooed lullabies.
Modern white salon chairs and chandeliers dripping in strands of faux diamonds provide a stark contrast to weathered wood floors. But the dichotomy works, and it plays into the menu of services as well. Stylists offer classic and modern haircuts, all-over color or a touch of highlights, and perms or straightening treatments to undo your perm because it doesn't match your collection of tiny hats.
The colors black and maroon frame Bella Rio Salon?s prominent storefront windows, which reveal aestheticians and stylists scurrying to and fro inside the Old Town establishment. Dangling from a high-vaulted ceiling, contemporary lighting fixtures illuminate the historical building?s exposed-brick walls, sleek haircutting stations, and a jumble of Bumble and bumble and Pureology haircare products perched on glass shelves. Before starting a new chapter of styling at Bella Rio Salon, colorist and stylist, Jillian worked as a colorist at Douglas J Salon in East Lansing for six years. In addition to doing updos, she also primps faces for the spotlight with facial waxing services. Owner Faith Waugh is a Douglas J Aveda Institute graduate, as are several of the other beauticians all of whom excel at endowing patrons with lustrous hair, glimmering eyes, and cheeks rosier than the Queen of Hearts' roses.
For the past 30 years, Another Look Hair Institute’s scalp experts have been rejuvenating thinning manes and receding hairlines with a range of preventive measures and synthetic hair restoration. The crux of their regimen is the synthetic Cyberhair, a fiber that mimics the texture, appearance, and styling properties of human hair. The Micro Point Link process ties four of these Cyberhair strands to your existing individual hairs, creating the appearance of a full head of hair by adding up to 600 additional strands. The team also helps mitigate hair loss naturally with their Hair Support program, which cleanses clogged follicles to encourage new growth.
Body beautification can take many forms, and at Ultra Tan, tanning is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to bronzing skin with spray tans and a UV capsule called The Cyberdome, the friendly staff provide massage and aesthetic services that help customers feel and look good from head to toe. Men and women can stop by for a haircut or a manicure or schedule a body-slimming massage after swallowing a birthday cake python-style. Aestheticians also embellish faces with cosmetics, sharing their makeup tricks with others during lessons.
