The eight-wheeled warriors of the Rocktown Rollers skate back onto the track at Funky's Skate Center, rousing fans of all ages with 60 minutes of bone-rattling checks, pileups, and passes. Following its acceptance as a full member of the internationally recognized Women's Flat Track Derby Association in 2011, the skater-owned-and-operated squad has continued to flourish as one of Shenandoah Valley's prime sources of supersonic action and bruises that cast shadows over less impressive bruises.

A photojournalist by training, Anthony Krysiewicz perfected his mastery of light and motion while snapping pictures during live concerts. The owner and head photographer of Studio 424 Photography has photographed Elton John, Eddie Vedder, and Blake Shelton, as well as bands such as Bush, St. Vincent, and Lady Antebellum, and incorporates the same artful presentation into his wedding and portrait photography. The studio also hosts two-hour photography classes each month, which teach students to take pictures outdoors, use a tripod, and change the camera’s clock and date settings, allowing them to travel back in time.

Originally built in the 1760s, the 645-acre Belvedere Plantation hosts the yearly Harvest Festival each October, filling weekends with family-fun attractions ranging from pumpkin patches to hayrides. Eight acres of cornfield are sculpted into a NASA-themed maze, inspiring brave farmstronauts to venture into uncharted territory. Adrenaline pumps through the veins of onlookers observing pig races, while turbo-charged pedal tractors thrill speed seekers. A double slide stretches out to 100 feet, whisking human missiles through space and time, as amiable goats, chickens, pigs, and turkeys look on with a been-there, done-that nonchalance.

To paraphrase an old adage, it takes a comedian to catch a comedian. Luckily, Rahmein Mostafavi, the commander of Cool Cow Comedy, has a bounty hunter's savvy when it comes to curating standup showcases. As a lifetime professional comic, Rahmein has graced the stages of institutions such as Caroline's on Broadway, DC Improv, and the Cape May Comedy Festival, and worked with everyone from Tim Meadows to The Sklar Brothers and Godfrey. He culls from this experience to deliver expertly vetted comedy shows to suburban venues usually bereft of big city laughs.
