The instructors at Promethean Studios know that every musician is different, and they tailor their teaching techniques to both beginners and lifelong learners of music. The teachers each boast at least 15 years of experience and hundreds of lessons taught, and typically get students making music or summoning the bird species of their choice in two to six months. Most music students start by learning how to play songs they choose, a tactic that introduces the fundamentals of rhythm, instrument technique, and music theory under the cover of fun.

As a child, Kyle Mathis would try to play anything even remotely resembling a guitar—that is, until he was 10 years old. That year, his financially struggling parents bought him his first guitar, a black acoustic Harmony. He spent much of the following decade honing his skills on the fretboard. After his band won a fateful competition, he launched into the national touring circuit. Today, when he isn't busy touring as the guitarist of Parabelle, he straps on his guitar and passes on his knowledge to other budding musicians.
With gauged ears and tattooed arms, Kyle's look might skew more towards rock star than down-to-earth music teacher—yet he is accommodating, holding in customer's homes as well as his professional studio. During each one-hour class, he teaches students all the basics of guitar artistry that they must learn before they can shred, from basic chords and finger placement to the basic mid-solo kickflip.
Casey and Samantha Thomas, the leaders of the Creative Soul School of Music, couple their passion for music with a shared mission: providing a nurturing environment where young musicians can hone their innate skills and discover their confidence. ?We?re trying to get to those kids who are trying to figure out their identity, where they fit in, where they can find a home,? Casey says. To that end, the school tailors private lessons and classes to suit each student?s passion, be it songwriting, orchestral layering, or technical proficiency in headbanging. Year-round, the school dots the local sonic landscape with trimesters of student band classes for children and adults, as well as one-week and shorter summer rock camps that pair up learners of the same age and experience level. Welcoming all proficiencies, instructors tout an ability to nurture struggling learners, who ultimately build the confidence to perform live shows at venues around the region.
Brazilian-born Larissa Mulligan began playing piano at the age of five, quickly developing a passion for the instrument. That passion lasted beyond childhood: she later graduated from the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro and went on to teach and perform professionally in Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. At LM Music studio, she works to spark students’ interest in musical expression with private and group lessons that incorporate fun activities to deepen understanding of rhythm and other musical concepts. She also uses music to turn monolingual tots into little polyglots in her Music and Language classes, which improve piano skills as well as aptitude in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.
