Don't be alarmed if The Healing Connection's massage therapist Ana Smyth doesn't use her hands. One of her specialties is ashiatsu massage, in which she manipulates tight muscles and targets pressure points using her bare feet. But just like a juggling marathon runner, Ana's equally adept at using her hands, which she employs during relaxing swedish or intense deep-tissue massages.
Even as a little girl, Tamara Baker kept herself busy inventing natural beauty remedies in her parent’s kitchen. When she grew up, she became a freelance makeup artist, creating designs for the Bozeman Opera Association. Later, she transitioned into the world of skincare, learning the ins and outs of aesthetics from dermatologists and plastic surgeons. Eventually, she went on to teach others the tricks of the trade at Florida College of Natural Health.
Today, from her second floor treatment room within Clix Salon and Spa, Baker relies on her more than 20 years of experience to help visitors battle blemishes and the signs of aging using a blend of organic and cosmeceutical treatments. Limited-edition facials naturally brighten complexions with seasonally themed creams and essential oils, and exfoliation treatments—ranging from chemical peels to dermaplaning—gently remove dead skin cells and rough patches. The seasoned aesthetician can also resurface skin using a Dermafile wand. Those suffering from fine lines can opt for the collagen-stimulating glow of a LightStim LED Light Therapy treatment.
To some, entering Blush Day Spa may feel more like wandering into a European castle. In the lobby, tufted armchairs huddle against an exposed-brick wall decorated with framed mirrors and paintings. Elsewhere, tasseled curtains lead out to a stone waterfall, soft yellow lamps and flowers sit next to cozy pedicure chairs, and massage tables lie side-by-side, strewn in rose petals and gold blankets near a vintage ebony credenza.
All that's not to say the spa is out of date. In fact, the service menu is decidedly modern, with treatments such as body contouring and anti-aging manicures with a glycolic peel. Their facials are particularly advanced, especially the LED photo rejuvenation and oxygen facials that both help brighten and even out skin tone. Even with all the technology, old-fashioned relaxation is still a priority, with a variety of massages available. This combination of results and relaxation led WESH-2 TV to deem Blush the area's Best Day Spa.
Often spotted at local fashion shows, bridal expos, and other events, Hair Connoisseurs Salon & MediSpa's assorted stylists, aestheticians, and ache easers coddle bodies with services for hair, nails, and skin in a flower-filled lakefront facility. In the salon, nimble shears create new styles for men and women, perms and relaxers alter hair textures, and highlights and color treatments get head threads to shimmer without weaving a false ponytail from sunbeams. Gauzy fabric hangs from the ceiling of the private room where trained massage therapists aim to reduce stress with soft kneading, direct pressure, or aromatherapy oil blends. At stone-topped manicure stations, technicians beautify fingers and toes with acrylic, fiberglass, and silk wrap nails, which can be tapped on coral stone accent columns to summon the ghosts of dried-out polish bottles.
Each Body By Laser clinic pairs cold-laser technology with holistic health practices to help patients lose inches and keep them off. The treatment gets its magic from cold lipolasers, which are designed to gently shrink fat cells by dislodging their contents so that they can be fully discarded through the body's natural metabolic process and series of tiny secondhand stores. Each one-hour treatment series wraps up with a consultation on diet and exercise, along with a quick session atop a whole-body-vibration platform engineered to burn even more calories.
Like art-house films and fish-flavored popsicles, these procedures are not intended for everyone; females who are pregnant or nursing should not undertake the treatment, nor should patients with active forms of cancer. Should any complications be discovered during Body By Laser's initial screening, the company will issue a refund.
The happy welcome from The Face Place’s babbling indoor fountain is echoed by licensed aesthetician Julie Lynn Council, who makes her clients feel at home in a spa filled with the aroma of scented candles. The sound of running water continues into the dimly lit treatment rooms, where Julie, armed with Hungarian-made Éminence Organic Skin Care products, nourishes any skin type with targeted products such as a coconut cleanser for dehydrated skin or strawberry-rhubarb serum for strawberry-shaped pores. To complement the spa’s traditional facials and peels, Julie performs more advanced procedures such as micro-current treatments and LED light therapy, a rejuvenating service that relies on the anti-aging powers of LED lights to banish wrinkles and hyperpigmentation from the skin. The Face Place’s petite menu also offers Cry Baby semipermanent mascara to thicken lash lines.
