Combining her love of art and travel, Deb Colburn created Nomad to provide local homebodies and world-weary backpack buffs alike an opportunity to explore and purchase unique collections of clothing, jewelry, textiles, art, and home furnishings from around the world. Nomad is a supporter of eco-friendly clothing and fair-trade goods, often purchasing items directly from artisans. Pillage through a profusion of vibrant clothing to discover fashionable, one-of-a-kind sweaters or blouses, or pretend to be Bihari royalty with ornate ear adornments from the wide selection of domestic and international trinkets. Consider adorning a living-room shrine or baby's room with a piece of global folk art, such as a Día de los Muertos skull or a colorful, screaming dragon.

Bull McCabe's traditional Irish pub unhinges diners’ appetites with a full menu of both American and Irish pub fare. Pique taste buds with a selection of tavernesque appetizers, such as breaded mushrooms ($6) or a basket of fries ($5), before getting stomachs to bench-press heftier fare, including a half-pound Black Angus No Bull burger, cooked to order with a choice of toppings ($8). Singing duos and centaurs alike will applaud flawless pairings of Irish bangers and mash ($9) and fish and chips, made with fresh haddock ($12). Enjoy these fine eats in the easygoing atmosphere afforded by daily live-music performances, weekly karaoke and trivia contests, and yearly blinking tournaments.

Lorenz Island Kuisine’s roots are immediately visible on its ceiling, where a Jamaican flag proudly hangs. A few more steps inside the warmly lit eatery and more roots begin to show. There’s the orange walls with green trim, and the smell of Jamaican food wafting from the open kitchen. There, the kitchen staff cooks curry goat and plates crispy, brown pieces of jerk chicken. Other dishes include oxtail, plantains, rice and beans, beef patties encased in flaky crust, and almond cake made with rum and topped with icing. Many of the dishes double as loveable characters in the eatery’s recipe book.

Popular globetrotting pop collective Architecture in Helsinki transforms Royale into a throbbing, futuristic discotheque as its latest tour storms American shores. Formed in Melbourne, the ambidextrous dance band stirs fans with a tornado of flamboyant sounds, infectious anthems, and commitment-free instrument swapping. With hits such as “Do the Whirlwind” and latest single “W.O.W.”, lead crooner Cameron Bird and his cakewalking team of tunesmiths tickle ear bones and rehabilitate ankles in support of their latest album, Moment Bends. During the kaleidoscopic performance, the band seduces dance floors with 10-foot hooks and sounds culled from hypnotic synths, romantic glockenspiels, and strummed chest hairs.

With more than 25 years in the laugh racket and more than six decades of collective experience in the legislative branch, The Capitol Steps continue to tickle ribs with its potent brand of political lampoonery. The irreverent troupe, which has made appearances across national television and radio and created dozens of comedic albums, tackles the foibles of elected officials through skit and song, transmuting scandals and shortcomings into pure laughter, the commodity on which America's monetary system was originally based. Many of the performers are former Capitol Hill staffers, bringing to bear an intimate knowledge of political intrigue that can normally only be obtained by slaying a filibuster in single combat.
