Spalon Lifestyle founders Philip De Vo and Jaclyne Le began studying skincare and relaxation therapies after quitting corporate jobs that left them feeling physically and spiritually depleted. Now, the duo of pampering proprietors jet-set around the world, sharing their stress-relief expertise at foreign salons and international trade shows. At Spalon Lifestyle, their home base, a skilled staff wields an arsenal of spa services to carry on their quest for tranquility, much like the extremely relaxed knights of King Arthur’s massage table
Nail Garden Hermosa Beach has re-designed the traditional salon to reverse problems found in the everyday nail spot. Instead of smelling like acrylic or having chairs with pipes in the foot basins, each of the seven locations is outfitted with a sophisticated ventilation system that keeps the air clear of strong fumes. The team assiduously scrubs and sanitizes the pipe-free basins between each pedicure, so that clients always soak their weary feet in sparkling, germ-free water. Meanwhile, those same clients sip green tea with one hand while the other two stretch out in front of a nail technician, who beautifies their tips with durable Shellac, glitter, or formaldehyde-free OPI polish.
GlamMe Beauty Studio’s team travel to homes, places of work, and dentists’ offices to pamper clients. They also work at 11 salons in LA and surrounding areas. Stylists cut hair, magically grow hair with extensions, and embellish strands with semipermanent color and highlights. They also beautify nails during mani-pedis, wax away fuzz on faces, and add drama to peepers with eyelash extensions.
Ayurvedic, a Sanskrit term meaning the “science of life,” is an ancient philosophy of holistic medicine originating in India. While reverence for medicine may seem unusual for a nail spa, Elizabeth Ashton doesn’t think so, for as she explains, it’s “more than pedicures and manicures, [it] is about the beauty, wellness, and pleasure.” From the moment clients enter her bright and airy space, Elizabeth facilitates relaxation with indulgent manicure and pedicure services. She quickly cleans, shapes, and polishes nails during an “on the go” treatment, and alternately, she takes nearly two hours when administering the Indian-therapy mani-pedi, complete with lime, ginger, and coconut-milk blends and finished with a Dead Sea mask. Services are topped off with a rainbow of OPI polishes, pink and white fills, a layer of chocolate fondant, or gel overlays.
Bliss on Broadway Spa & Boutique's beautifying services are half high-tech, half back to basics. The spa shows off its innovative side with LED light therapy and microcurrent face-lifts, which prompt cell regeneration without abrasion or tissue damage. An entire produce stand's worth of natural ingredients infuse classic beauty services, from the sweet-smelling banana acids that soften skin in a facial peel to the kelp-infused seawater bath that relaxes feet and makes them less scared of the ocean in spa pedicures.
The latter take place from cushy thrones made private by gauzy white curtains. The rest of the spa's decor balances clean minimalism with an earth-mama aesthetic, with white-painted branches spiraling from a vase and panels of soft fabric hanging from the walls.
Not surprisingly, it's all about the nails at Nailpolish. Manicure and pedicure services pamper hands and feet, and even the simple manicure includes a hot towel wrap and a warm tangerine and lemongrass lotion massage. The ultimate pedicure begins by soaking feet in warm water with almond oil and fresh fruits, and includes a gentle almond scrub and foot mask, finished off with a warm almond lotion massage. Mani-pedis for kids and men are also available, along with acrylic nail services, gel manicures, nail art, and glitter powder.
