Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, injuries from auto accidents, and stress are no match for the staff at Advanced Physical Medicine. The professionals, led by Dr. David Williamson, treat a wide range of issues with a bushel of services. Tense muscles and back pain politely take their leave thanks to chiropractic therapy and massage. The ancient treatment of acupuncture connects with the body's energy to help slay headaches and anxiety. In addition, a guided weight loss program arms clients with a diet and exercise plan that not only helps them lose weight but also improves their mood and changes their blood sugar to blood Splenda.
Dr. Aimee and Associates help patients bolster both their minds and their bodies. The team of physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, and life coaches pools their experience to help their clients battle whatever difficulties they face, no matter their age. They can meet with clients in need of parental counseling, help young adults achieve success through life coaching, or soothe smokers' nicotine cravings through hypnotherapy. The center's board-certified physicians can also boost clients' outward appearances with Botox and Juvederm treatments, or assess students' physical health to ensure their eligibility for school football tryouts and alligator-wrestling meets.
Tension and worry creep through the body, elbowing into sleep, pinching at joints, and generally making life unpleasant. As harbingers of that larger monster, stress, they are formidable foes?but they prove no match for the staff of The Chicago Stress Relief Center, Inc. Led by founder Dr. Howard K. Weissman, the team develops personalized plans to help clients to manage mental and physical ailments. Concerns can be washed away with water and heat during flotation-tank and infrared-sauna sessions that afford clients solitary peace and quiet. Further aid takes the form of massage and art therapy, yoga sessions, and unlimited rolls of bubble wrap ready to be popped.
Mosaic Therapy, a non-profit organization, strives to help families in need through tutoring. Certified teachers (most of whom have their Masters degrees) focus on incorporating students' emotions as a part of the learning process. Tutors aim to increase confidence and create successful learners, while creating a platform for engaging students and providing interventions.
The staff understands that culture is a key factor in learning, and that's why they try to communicate with clients in their native language as opposed to nongeographic forms of communication like semaphore. They also work with adults, with therapy options and education courses specifically designed for couples, parents, and the entire family.
In 1979, Stephanie Weber’s mother, Ellen, took her own life. Stephanie, 31 years old and a mother of four then, according to the Chicago Tribune, was encouraged at the time to find meaningful distraction—enroll in an art-history class or join the Red Cross. But Weber’s grief drove her instead to help others. Three years later, she and seven others founded Survivors of Suicide, a group dedicated to consoling families effected by suicide, and in 1998 founded Suicide Prevention Services of America (SPS).
Now a lauded grief counselor and member of the American Association of Suicidology's board of directors, Stephanie steers SPS's services toward the PIP trifecta: prevention, intervention, and postvention. Speaking in her Chicago Tribune interview, Weber said that engagement is critical in preventing suicide, because “anyone who's suicidal has a sense of relief that someone would take them seriously and let them talk about their pain.” To this end, SPS offers a range of counseling services including over-the-phone support with paraprofessionals, in-person depression screening and counseling, and support groups for people who have attempted suicide and who have lost loved ones. SPS also places professionals in several local high schools, and its Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training workshops teach people the signs for potential suicide and instruct them in how to help.
