Bruce Dodgen of Dodgen Photography snaps meaningful mementos destined to dress walls, wallets, and digital landscapes. Equipped with Nikon and Kodak digital cameras and professional lighting equipment for in-studio and on-location shoots, he captures images of beloved pets, engaged couples, or large family groups. Subjects return to the studio to preview the fruits of their session and select which should be printed and burned to CD or emblazoned permanently in the mind’s eye. After customers view the images, he hands them to his spouse and business partner Paula, who touches up the images with her prodigious Photoshop skills, smoothing out uneven skin and limiting the prominence of relatives’ likenesses to Big Foot.
A haven for fresh flowers and all manner of plant life serving the Des Moines area since 1948, Doherty’s Flowers transforms backyards into arboreal havens and lends fragrant, colorful accents to front porches and gardens. Guests can also peruse the greenhouse and nursery at their own leisure, picking out lilies with which to beautify their home gardens and carnivorous plants to hide in their coworkers’ cubicle drawers. The shop’s florists stroll down the paths of their garden and nursery, carefully selecting bouquets of local and tropical flowers for weddings, gift baskets, and delivery to loved ones.
Within Digital Galleria Designs' boutique studio, photographers create memorable images to memorialize weddings, senior years, and family ties. The shutterbugs' styles shift for the client or occasion in order to capture the candid, honest interactions of a bride and groom or the humor and playfulness of a child. They imbue family portraits with traditional backdrops and poses or eclectic and quirky props and arrangements. After the camera captures likenesses on its internal etch-a-sketch, photographers make colors pop off the page, erase blemishes, and drop in graphics before transferring them to print sheets and CDs.

Clix Portrait Studios’ team of professional shutterbugs works tirelessly behind the lens to craft vibrant, personality-capturing portraits of each of their subjects. They bring their creativity to each portrait session, which include high-school senior, business, and family portraits, building sessions that highlight the subject's personality as opposed to that of their more photogenic doppelgänger. They will also disembark from the comforts of their studio to snap lasting memories at special events such as dance recitals and proms. When they’re not helping guests create photo books and calendars in their design center, Clix hosts high-fashion Covergirlz birthday parties where guests can strut their stuff for the camera.
Though they specialize in portraits for graduating seniors, the photographers at Black Label Seniors aren’t much for pomp and circumstance. They do away with stiff formalities to capture their subjects’ natural expressions during sessions held in their studio at a 38,000-square-foot warehouse or at locations throughout Des Moines. Rather than wrestle their clients into a one-size-fits-all template, they emphasize what makes them unique—be it a dashing grin, a cool pair of sunglasses, or a football helmet that has “Born to be Safe” stenciled on the side of it.
