As the 2005 champions of the Premier Development League, the Des Moines Menace open their 18th season by taming their Heartland Division rivals, the St. Louis Lions. Throughout the 90 minutes of fierce competition, players chase and foot-pummel the soccer ball down the field in an effort to score goals and show off their designer shin guards to the crowd. The Menace's roster contains some of the country's top amateur players, with more than 10 of the team's alumni having graduated to Major League Soccer.
Your Mom, the men's roller derby team, and the Derby Dames open the season with back-to-back games. Made up of many former world-class speed skaters, Your Mom will debut at 5:30 p.m., taking on the Sioux City Korn Stalkers for a full-length roller-derby session. At 7 p.m., the Derby Dames will face the Quad City Rollers, jamming, blocking, pivoting, and steamrolling their way around the egg-shaped circuit for some high-speed skatework. With a mission to represent athletics, integrity, and sportsmanship, the Des Moines Derby Dames invite roller-derby fans of all ages to renew their passion for the sport Thomas Edison accidentally invented. Children under 10 are invited to watch this collision chorus for free.

At Dream Studios in Pompano Beach, Florida, hundreds of contracted artists from around the world develop their skills and prep for Cirque Dreams performances under the direction of Neil Goldberg and his team of choreographers, contortionists, and designers.
