The Water Damage Expert freshens floors and fabrics with a variety of dirt-demolishing services. During a one- to two-hour carpet cleaning and spot removal, steam at temperatures of 190 degrees and above penetrates deep into a carpet's pile, forcing out dust, debris, and traumatic memories of being trampled by soccer cleats. A gentle shampoo soothes carpet locks before pinning pile into prom-worthy up-dos. Excess water is then sucked into a recovery tank to ensure a quick dry, which lets customers walk on carpets immediately after cleanings.
Covering oneself in mud, clambering up a jungle gym, and crawling through a tunnel is not how most people spend their Sunday mornings. But for competitors in the Merrell Down & Dirty National Mud and Obstacle Series, it’s business as usual. During a 3- or 6-mile run, participants test their endurance and strength as they tackle more than 20 challenges in between sprints. These include leaping over marine hurdles, walking across balance beams, and scaling an inflatable wall. Participants will also run along the horse park's riding trails and meander through the mountain biking course from the 1996 Summer Olympics. Youngsters can join in on the fun, too—the Adventure Kids course pits ages 4–13 against child-sized obstacles and a mud pit. Following the race, winners in their division earn awards, then celebrate during a post-race after-party complete with live music.
Food Forward connects people with food by harvesting excess produce from local farms and public spaces, which it distributes to more than 20 food banks and pantries across Southern California. After receiving an invitation, an all-volunteer force meets at a property and picks produce for one to two hours. A pick leader provides tools, organizes the group, and delivers the fruit to a vetted hunger-relief organization that serves it to clients within 72 hours. By conducting 15–20 picks every month, Food Forward aims to demonstrate the abundance of available food that goes to waste and to raise the issues of urban hunger and food justice in the community.
As the president of Miller's Carpet Care, William H. Miller has overseen a team of certified carpet cleaners since 1974. He sends this team across the Inland Empire to remove dirt and stains from carpets and upholstery with truck-mounted equipment. When they aren’t rescuing rugs damaged by wine spills or indoor slip ’n' slides, the technicians scour tiles and grout and clear debris from air ducts. Though homes are their specialty, Miller’s Carpet Care also extends its services to offices, schools, and restaurants.
Inception Home Remodeling's technicians complete home-renovation projects of all sizes, from remodeling a kitchen or bathroom to adding a new room. Their thorough roofing services don't spare the minutiae, as the staff combs over a finished roof with a metal detectors to find any loose nails.
