Trina Renea started out in L.A. as a singer in a punk band, later taking a more peaceful turn into the skincare and spa world. Having amassed more than 15 years of experience in the health and beauty industries, today she's the owner of Facial Bungalow. To best help her clients, she specializes in anti-aging facials and treatments that fight acne, rather than just encouraging it to move to the back of your head. She dabbles in cosmetic chemistry too, collaborating with experts on her product line, Trina Renea Skincare.
For 25 years, aesthetician Sara West has studied skin as dry as a desert and as oily as a car engine. In the process, she’s developed a mental tome of advice for her clients. Yet even as she educates on the role skincare products, exercise, and diet play in the health of one’s complexion, she continues her own education, ensuring that she has the most accurate advice to give. Inside her studio, where smooth black tile floors sprawl beneath modern wooden furniture that entices the eye with soft, curved lines, she tends to customers' faces with a range of holistic and medical treatments. Fruit-infused peels, green-tea and herbal steam, lavender, and chamomile bathe her clients’ faces, whereas plant-based ingredients cleanse their pores and free them of the urge to nap facedown in their gardens.
Monique Powers approaches each makeup-application session with an open mind and—more importantly—open ears. She listens carefully to each client's unique preferences; and for those who don't know what they want, she presents pictures and color palates before determining the first look to try. She has extensive experience working with women of all ages, nationalities, and skin types, readying them for events ranging from weddings to nights out on the town.
To further enhance facial features, Monique, who calls herself an “eyebrow architect,” sculpts and shapes eyebrows for men and women. She adds healthy color to bodies during airbrush-tanning sessions, and she improves skin's health through a spectrum of specialized facials and peels.
Padded leather manicure and pedicure chairs line the walls of Nail Me!, but they might not be the first thing visitors notice at this newly opened spa. Soft light falls from an enormous crystal chandelier, wall panels are upholstered in tiny artificial flowers, and silvery beaded curtains hang between pedicure thrones. In this elegant environment, nail services are enriched by little luxuries such as salt rubs, essential-oil soaks, hot towels, and massages. Facials can be tailored to skin impacted by fine lines, environmental stress, or acne, among other conditions, and full-body treatments exfoliate, firm, and relax skin from head to toe.
Cazzie Mayorga, an Australian native, stylist, and part owner of Gorgeous, forges alternative hairstyles by drawing upon years of experience dolling up actors and musicians that have included Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ozzy Osbourne, and Juliette Lewis. Regarding her talents, LA Weekly wrote, “Whenever a Hollywood scenester’s coif makes your jaw drop…there’s a good chance that Cazzie Mayorga is behind the creation.” The salon’s interior positively crackles with zigzags that bolt from wall to ceiling and airbrushed portraits of rockers including Alice Cooper, David Bowie, and The Ramones. The artwork encircles vanity mirrors, where real-life rock stars often appear to check out spiky new ’dos or to make sure that they didn’t accidentally put on a tie.
