Gold's Gym began more than 45 years ago, and now features an impressive array of next-generation fitness gadgets, a results-oriented focus, and clean facilities. Neophyte or expert gravity resisters can regularly finesse their fitness on a cardio machine, pump up in a controlled manner on strength-training machines, tighten up in the abdominal and functional stretching area, or stick with lifting bundles of rebar and commercial chest freezers.
Rosie Hardy, owner and instructor of ShakeItLatinStyle and a lover of dance, started ShakeItLatinStyle Dance and Fitness to not only share her love of dance with others, but also to reveal that dancing isn't just fun?it's good for you, too. Her experienced and diverse staff also coordinate and host a variety of classes that include R.I.P.P.E.D, Yoga Bar Strength, and Hot Hula Sculpt.
No men, no makeup, no mirrors. It's a philosophy that?s helped members of the Curves community since 1992. Part fitness center, part community center, Curves is a women?s only club that takes a streamlined approach to health, fitness, and weight loss. Curves has teamed up with health and fitness coach Jillian Michaels to develop full-body, 30-minute workouts that kick-start weight loss, combining strength training, cardio, and stretching into sessions that torch fat, build strength, boost intensity, and prevent plateaus. These workouts are enhanced further by the Curves Complete Program, available for an extra fee, which is rooted in Curves' method for effective weight loss in that it supplements efforts at the gym with personalized meal plans and weekly one-on-one meetings with a certified Curves coach.
When David and Sheila Bath founded Leading Edge Gymnastics in 1990, they did so with a simple goal: to help kids build character through the sport they themselves were so passionate about. As their student base expanded and their programs flourished, that character-building mission remained. And along with self-discipline and positive thinking, the gym's students take home physical strength, agility, and really cool party tricks. The program now offers three levels for gymnasts, a competitive team for serious athletes, preschool programs such as Mommy and Me, and even birthday parties. Thus far, LEGA has five athletes attending college on full-ride college scholarships.
To fitness trainer Jon Chacon, the first order of business with any client is building a sturdy foundation of strength. His boot camp, athletic training, and strength camp incorporate both strength training and conditioning with bursts of high-intensity exercise. Pared-down workouts in a spartan facility use tools, such as ropes and sandbags, that emphasize agility and functional strength?values familiar to Chacon, whose experience ranges from commercial fishing to the Marine Corps. He also guides clients with nutrition and supplement guidelines, as well as monthly weight and body fat measurements.
