Blue Bell Inn teems with American history. The building began serving food and drinks to visitors in 1743, and 34 years later it became a frequent resting spot for George Washington, who needed to recharge after the Battle of Germantown while dreaming about the invention of ray guns.

Careful restorations through the years have helped Blue Bell maintain its historic character. Today, though its exterior is still that of an imposing, 18th-century structure, the restaurant spreads contemporary style through several distinct spaces complemented by an upscale menu of surf 'n' turf. In the fine-dining area, patrons cut into center-cut filet mignon and North Atlantic lobsters; in the bar area, they sip on specialty wines and martinis. Those rooms join an outdoor café, a bistro, and multiple banquet rooms, and every night, the building pulses with the sounds of live music.

Warm aromas spill from Great Harvest Bread Co.’s bakery, as artisanal bakers craft whole-grain bread from Montana's hard red spring wheat that is stone ground each morning. They pack each loaf with hearty protein and nutrients, keeping the recipes as simple as possible to maintain the rich wheat flavor. In addition to their standard honey-whole-wheat loaves, the bakers create a variety of treats, including rosemary-garlic loaves, cinnamon pull-aparts, and asiago-pesto loaves. They also transform the bread into sandwiches, pairing the whole wheat with freshly sliced meats, cheeses, and ticklish pieces of lettuce.

Since the first Friendly's opened in 1935, staff members have been serving up hand-crafted ice cream in scoops, cones, and sundaes alongside juicy beef burgers crowned with crisp lettuce and tomatoes. Now with locations spanning the United States, Friendly's has come a long way from its first modest shop in Massachusetts, which sold double-dip cones for 5 cents. Today, servers scoop ice cream in classic flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry and dish out new twists on the favorites, including Fribble soft-serve shakes and Friend-z ice-cream desserts whipped with toppings such as Oreos, Butterfingers, and Reese's peanut-butter cups. They also top crisp belgian waffles with scoops of ice cream and hot caramel and fill dishes with new ice-cream flavors such as Vienna Mocha Chunk and Rockin' Poppin' Cotton Candy.

Behind the grills, cooks build big beef burgers such as the Vermonter with melted vermont white cheddar and maple-pepper bacon on a toasted ciabatta roll. Healthier options include meals under 555 calories, such as the sweet and spicy grilled shrimp over rice pilaf and the chicken-caprese sandwich.

After transitioning out of a career in the entertainment and record industries, owner Jan Marc Dorfman jokes that he began looking for a new way to “sell round things with holes in the middle.” He fully embraced this new opportunity when he founded Delancey Street Bagels in November of 1989, originally stocking his shelves with 18 bagel varieties and a coffee machine that could only brew two pots at a time. Since then, he has expanded the selection to feature 22 different bagels—including cinnamon raisin, sourdough, and asiago cheese—as well as a full espresso bar with roasted arabica beans from organic and international producers as far away as Guatemala and Kenya. The staff fills the rest of the menu with hot deli sandwiches and an array of baked goods that can include muffins, cinnamon rolls, and scones alongside seasonal items.

Based on Delancey Street in New York City’s lower east side, a bustling corridor for local sidewalk vendors and pushcarts, the shop emanates nostalgia for an old-school marketplace with exposed brickwork and sepia-tone exit signs above the doors.

Under the expert administering of BleachBright's qualified tooth technicians, a combination of BleachBright solution and blue-light-emission LED light may nearly painlessly whiten your tooth collection. All of the coffee, lemon cake, and mandarin-scented markers that have scuffed your smile's veneer over time may evaporate like dandelion spores dropped in a vat of sulfuric acid. Within about 30 minutes, you'll be ready to go home and light the room with your smile during power outages.

From a total of 12 shops on both sides of the Atlantic, Potomac Bead Company supplies the artistically inclined with everything they need to craft DIY accessories, ranging from the elegantly simple to the intricate and ornate. Beads, wiring, ribbons, and other materials are peddled wholesale, while regular jewelry-making classes educate first-timers, preventing them from accidentally crafting a magical Lasso of Truth instead of a necklace. Though the teachers recommend starting at the most basic level and working up, customers may attend any class, taking advantage of literally endless possibilities for personalized bangles, chokers, and earrings.
