Bright flashing lights swirl in the low-lit studio as Latin-inspired music moves hips through high-energy dance moves. The Klubhouse 2's popular West Sacramento Zumba classes lead exercisers from all walks of life through easy-to-follow, calorie-torching moves demonstrated by energetic instructors 19 times a week. The fitness studio offers bountiful group fitness classes to help guests slim profiles and bolster muscles during R.I.P.P.E.D. classes. The driving force behind these sessions is an aversion to plateaus that other, less-inventive and less-varied workout regimens can engender.
First-time visitors to Spotlight Dance & Fitness’s 7,200-square-foot studio might notice that their feet feel lighter before the lesson even starts. This sensation of walking on clouds is no trick of the mind—the studio’s floating, cushioned beech floors were imported from Denmark to give dancers a little more spring in their step. Though impressive, there’s more to the studio than its physical enhancements, which also include wall-length mirrors and a trio of smooth white columns that dancers often reference while attempting to maintain straight posture.
The beating heart of Spotlight Dance & Fitness lies in its energetic instructors, who teach a variety of dance styles practiced in nightclubs and ballrooms around the world. Partners twirl across the hardwood in tango lessons and feet shimmy across the floor in salsa and bachata classes of all levels, but the studio’s specialty is its ballroom series for beginners. Throughout the course of this series, instructors develop fancy footwork and reinforce proper dance-floor etiquette, such as never slouching or dipping your partner in the punch bowl.

Sacramento Pole Dance Studio transports ladies out of their gym routine and into a sultry, comfortable environment painted in opposing tones of pink and black. The sassy curriculum aims to transform ladies of all ages into shapely, self-confident performers. Inhibitions melt away and ponytails fall out of scrunchies as women get in touch with their seductive side while twirling around dance poles or strutting around chairs, or unleash their inner Hulk as they rip the pole from its foundations with newfound upper-body strength. Instructor-led choreography sneaks into sessions to strengthen muscle groups, improve flexibility, and imbue spines with a confident posture
Busting a move you've never busted before—be it a contemporary ballet move, a jazzercise move, or a well-coordinated move to a nicer part of town and away from that mouthy opossum that keeps opening your mail—is a great way to get exercise, learn a new skill, and meet new and graceful friends. At Midtown Stomp, partners are encouraged to rotate, making the lessons as social as the open dance to help dancers learn new moves and catch the dance bug. Live music during the open dance will be provided by Phat Cat Swinger, a Hasselhoff-approved band that has toured the country and performed with Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, Royal Crown Revue, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and The Coasters.
Director Lena Logan already has a proven track record in the arts, racking up accolades as an actress, model, and Broadway dancer. Now, thanks to her work at Contemporary Dance Conservatory, she can add teacher to her already-sterling resume. Lena trains students based on their individual needs, strengths, and skills, sharing honest tutelage in ballet and contemporary styles that has helped former students gain admittance to the likes of NYU, Alvin Ailey, and Julliard. Students also display their skills in company productions as well as competitions that always seem to be held during a slow-motion rainstorm in a wind tunnel.
