Arthur Murray has been a leading name in franchise dance since 1912, when the entrepreneur began selling mail-order dance lessons. Expanding his reach, he enlisted teachers to spread his signature dance lessons on first-class steamships and skyrocketed to fame in the '30s after introducing the public to such dances as the Lambeth Walk and The Big Apple. By the 1950s, Arthur and his wife, Kathryn, were hosting their own highly popular TV show on ABC, The Arthur Murray Dance Party, which ran for 12 years. Today, Arthur Murray's team prepares students for rug cutting at special events and weekend nightclub jaunts. Throughout lessons, instructors teach the foundations of two to four dances from a long list of styles that range from Latin to country-western, helping students to learn basic step patterns, timing, and the ability to lead or follow.
Riverside Dance Center's teachers have helped fledgling dancers shimmy with precision for nearly 30 years. The studio's owner leads each adult class through a series of steps, emphasizing technique as students explore clicks, stomps, and shuffles. Kids strut to beats and rhymes in Hip-Hop I and II, learning how to ignite a rap battle in case of emergency. Today's Groupon may also be used for Stretch & Tone exercise classes or a Zumba workshop, which shows fitness seekers dance-inspired moves that burn calories when paired with Latin-style rhythms.
Since 2004, HMSD has earned the reputation of one of the finest institutions of dance education in Southern Mass. The school's reputation, due in large part to Heidi's commitment to her students and families, has directly resulted in an extraordinarily devoted following of aspiring dancers and families.
Cofounded by the legendary Hollywood dancer himself, the Fred Astaire Dance Studio hosts a team of seven veteran instructors who specialize in ballroom and Latin dances ranging from the rumba to the waltz. Students can build their cache of moves in private lessons with personalized curricula or practice with their peers in the convivial atmosphere of group classes. High-octane Zumba classes help to combust calories, imparting Latin-inspired choreography in an atmosphere that is festive but doesn’t expose students to dangerous swarms of flying champagne corks. Youngsters build their poise in dance classes that cover five different styles, ranging from ballet to hip-hop, and engaged couples prepare to glide elegantly across the dance floor at their nuptials with wedding-oriented classes.
Co-founded in 1954 by the master of dance himself, Mr. Fred Astaire, we strive to continue the same standards of excellence in dance instruction. The teaching methods and dance curriculum created by Mr. Fred Astaire are still being used today to make our students the most confident and stylish dancers they can be.
Ballroom instructor Jared Vigneault—recipient of the Top Teacher award at the 2012 Massachusetts DanceSport Challenge—draws from multiple dance degrees and eight years of ballroom experience as he works to infect his pupils with dance fever at Poise, Style & Motion. Along with a diverse cast of experienced instructors, he works to help students of all ages and abilities gracefully twirl across the dance floor through private and group lessons, social parties, and performances. They prepare their students to confidently cut a rug at dance clubs, weddings, competitions, and important business meetings with instruction in several styles. Their instruction range from the fast-paced footwork of swing and the merengue to the more stoic arts of the tango and waltz. To whip bodies into dance-athon shape, Poise, Style & Motion's instructors blend their fancy-footwork training with aerobics during their Latin-dance-inspired fitness classes. They also help dancers improve their endurance and pump up core muscles with modified merengue, samba, swing, and paso-doble dance steps.
