In their no-nonsense gym, certified CrossFit trainers Dan Moss and Darin Moon lead intense, fat-blasting workouts that focus on functional movements and varied exercises. It's a method that works every muscle group, sheds weight, and inclusive, scaling up or down to all fitness levels and body types. During one-hour sessions, Dan and Darin motivate fitness enthusiasts to shimmy up ropes, heave heavy barbells, and hop on and off plyometric boxes in preparation for visits to Q*bert's home. Their schedule accommodates students Monday through Saturday, with each membership package including unlimited workout sessions and one-on-on attention.
Though Bang Fitness Project stands by traditional gym staples—a welcoming setting, programs suitable for families or singles, and affable trainers—it also embraces high-tech advancements. With DotFit Nutrition, guests plan their meals by accessing a gigantic database of food statistics and advice from NASM professionals. The gym's Visual Fitness Planner pulls 3-D images from potential futures, showing users how an exercise or diet regimen could affect their physiques and ability to make carry-on luggage fit. Visitors armed with this knowledge can then jog aboard television-facing treadmills, heft free weights, and test their muscles on strength machinery from Precor and Life Fitness.
Owner-instructor Devon Pearson is certified in reformer, chair, and mat Pilates through The Physical Mind Institute and continues to attend classes in an effort to grow professionally. It’s hard to imagine a trainer more dedicated to fitness than Josh Kuklak, the owner of Survival Fitness Gym. An ACE-certified personal trainer, Josh holds state records in powerlifting on the bench-press and deadlift platforms, and has also competed in hockey, tennis, karate, and weight training. Along with Diana Fisbeck, also an ACE-certified trainer, he leads boot camp-style workouts that call upon muscle confusion—through constantly varied routines—to promote building strength and melting fat.
Their boot camps fuse cardio, resistance training, and plyometrics into workouts that change every day to prevent workout burnout. Leaving treadmills and weight machines behind, the sessions incorporate a slew of nontraditional fitness equipment. Students might flip oversize tires and hang from gymnastics rings one day, and then heave sledgehammers and box heavy bags until they cry uncle the next. Their basic-training class focuses on core work and endurance, and strength training blends elements of powerlifting, bodybuilding, and functional training to pack on muscle and annihilate fat. The fitness duo also leads personal-training sessions, motivating clients to reach their goals and harmonizing with them during workout songs.

When the cast of Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights needed a dance consultant, they called Darren's Ballroom Dance Studios’ owner and instructor Darren Cupp. When professionals on Dancing with the Stars needed training, they sought out Darren Cupp. And when CityVoter handed out awards in 2010 and 2011, they honored Darren Cupp. Drawing from more than 17 years of experience, Darren works alongside a staff of skilled dancers to teach students of all skill levels to navigate the dance floor without earning the nickname Ol' Hammer Feet.
Instructors school pupils, from sole students to entire wedding parties, in a diverse lineup of dance styles and fitness classes. They kick off terpsichorean studies with lessons in styles such as swing, rumba, and salsa, as well as ballroom staples including the foxtrot, waltz, and tango. They also lead Latin-inspired fitness classes, busting fast-paced moves and sometimes incorporating dumbbells to burn more calories and whip dancers into shape. In addition to training the hot-steppers of tomorrow, Darren's Ballroom is a proud member of the Mesothelioma Community Resource Network.
