Certified personal trainer Amy Goodwin's mission is to help people enjoy getting fit. As a mom of three energetic daughters, she knows it's not always easy to make time for a workout, and she admits that it takes dedication and discipline to reach fitness goals. She strives to make fitness accessible with a variety of group classes, ranging from stress-relieving yoga sessions to total-body RIPPED workouts, which engage the entire body more effectively than dragging a 200-pound ball and chain everywhere you go. During personal-training sessions, she merges functional movements with training tools such as free weights, kettlebells, and TRX suspension bands. Her training style also includes mixed martial-arts moves, plyometric training, and stability exercises.
Ryan McDonald is a wellness double threat with a background in fitness and certification as a massage therapist. His athletic know-how translates to both personal-training sessions and a specialty in myoskeletal alignment, which allows Ryan to identify the causes behind bodily pain, rather than just the symptoms. His massage techniques include myofascial release and craniosacral work, which help alleviate injuries caused from playing sports or waving a foam finger too enthusiastically.
Certified CrossFitter and owner David Tripp puts his Army and outdoor-adventuring experience to work during intense cross-training routines at Land Warrior CrossFit. Along with his team of knowledgeable and skilled instructors, he teaches the CrossFit system because of its universal scalability, able to prep people of all ages and fitness levels for every kind of physical activity. They do this by employing functional-movement exercises that enhance power, agility, and speed, while toning all muscle groups.
The newly opened, spacious Lightning Fitness is dedicated to helping clients meet their fitness goals. Certified personal trainers are on hand at the 7,100-square-foot private fitness center, teaching small-group classes and answering questions as members work out with the cardio and strength-training machines and free weights.
Each piece of Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment is designed to sculpt and tighten a different part of the body. You can try them all at The Gym at Bloomfield Crossing, LLC, where members make the rounds on weight machines or burn calories on treadmills with personal TV monitors. Instructors guide groups through fitness classes such as yoga and Zumba in expansive workout rooms, and servers pour replenishing protein shakes at the juice bar.
While most gyms let loose their clients onto complicated equipment without preparation, like a gladiator facing off against a leg press, FitWomen’s staff shows its members the ropes during complimentary equipment orientations and group-training sessions. After a solo workout or a group Zumba class, ladies can retire to a locker room with private showers.
