For more than three decades, Doctor of Chiropractic Michael Darr, along with the staff of the Advanced Spinal Rehab and Wellness Center, has worked to help patients achieve and maintain optimum health. Inspired by his high school science classes, as well as by his father, grandfather, and other relatives, all of whom were chiropractors, Dr. Darr set out to cure people of what ails them without drugs or surgery.

At Breathe, owner Wendy Faber says one of her goals at the massage studio is to help her clients improve their lives and rediscover the energy and creativity they enjoyed in their childhood, which she she does by offering a variety of bodywork treatments, fitness programs?such as yoga, thai kickboxing, and self-defense?and social events that combine food, music, and dance. She and her staff also offer 15 types of massage. It might be challenging for clients to pick their favorite from such a selection, but Wendy says the service she most enjoys performing is the Hawaiian lomlomi massage.
"...this massage takes your state of relaxation to a whole other level," she says. While the massage is not administered by her, she adds: "I, myself, feel amazingly open, calm and so much more centered after I give a lomilomi."
Aesthetics Etc. owner Ann Marie Ray strives to transform standard beauty services into relaxing sensory experiences. Her staff incorporates the flame-softened wax of collagen-infused candles into select massages, relies on brand-name gloProfessional products, and encourages clients to slip into cozy slippers and robes. Ann Marie's signature service is permanent-makeup application though, which is useful both for helping chemotherapy patients to aesthetically recover from the loss of their eyebrows or simply shortening a client?s daily face-prepping routine.
Before pursuing a career in makeup and skincare, Ann Marie spent seven years working a standard 9-to-5 job in finance. After years of persuasion and encouragement from her mother, a professional aesthetician, she left the corporate world and became a certified permanent-cosmetics specialist in 2002. Today, mother and daughter operate separate but noncompeting businesses, referring clients to one another for specific treatments or a second opinion on who left the milk out that one time in 1991.
After struggling with her own problematic skin, Lynette Sciulli decided to fight back. She enrolled in aesthetics school to became a licensed cosmetologist and aesthetician and has spent the past decade helping clients achieve their beauty goals. Sciulli is now the proud owner of an eponymous establishment that was named a top finalist in the Best Day Spa category of Fox 8's 2011 Hot List. Sciulli and her team employ the glo therapeutics line to perform relaxing facials that combat issues such as acne, dryness, or sensitivity with highly concentrated active ingredients.
The talented crew specializes in men's haircuts, which include an eyebrow and nose grooming, hot-towel facial, a shoulder and neck massage, and instructions on tying a silk cravat into the shape of a favorite sports mascot. They also pamper guests with services ranging from Shellac mani-pedis and fragrant aromatherapy massages to airbrushed spray tans.
Rometrics Salon & Spa's beauty experts strike a balance between modern and time-tested skin and hair remedies. The aestheticians employ high-tech LED light therapy to combat signs of aging. They train two frequencies of the light emitting diodes on faces in order to promote collagen production, repair damaged cells, and kill acne bacteria, all without any downtime. Other cutting-edge services include microdermabrasion and body-contouring treatments.
But the aestheticians also nourish skin with all-natural, plant-based Aveda products, and the stylists use the botanical line to strengthen and hydrate hair during styling services. To complete makeovers, the staffers shade skin with spray tans, wax off unwanted hair, apply no-chip Gelish polish, and use perms to create the kind of springy curls that clients can clip off to use as a slinky whenever a toddler threatens them.
