Huw Lloyd Davies and Stu White started HDX Fit as a place where they can help others improve their own health and fitness. The center's training principles are built upon holistic health awareness, the fundamentals of nutrition, and metabolic conditioning. Alongside an excellent supporting staff, the team curates a curriculum of group training classes, personal-training sessions, nutrition consultations, and holistic life coaching.
HDX Fit also offers an online training program, a portal full of videos and written workouts for people who can’t make it to classes because their motorized unicycles are out of gas. The online program includes a weekly telephone chat with one of the gym’s trainers, who speaks to the philosophy of the center's inspirational founder.
At OC Fitness Boot Camp, exercise isn’t just about summoning an instant endorphin rush or fitting into a smaller pair of jeans a few weeks down the line. It’s about helping people live longer, healthier lives. Held at scenic parks and beaches, workouts help participants cultivate a love of fitness that endures when life throws them a curveball or a water balloon filled with chocolate pudding. Here, participants of all fitness levels cheer one another toward goals during strength-building exercises such as burpees, squats, push-ups, and sit-up variations. In addition to torching calories, running and jumping drills fill the group with energy, like a pep rally led by anthropomorphic lightning bolts. A seasoned instructor oversees each camper, doling out exercise demos, technique tips, and a hearty dose of motivation.
At South Bay Boot Camp, owner Armando Gutierrez and his staff lead heart-pumping sweat sessions designed to burn fat and strengthen muscles. Exercisers meet up nearly every day of the week for an hour of cardio, strength, and core circuit training that can include anything from squat thrusts and pushups to sprints and thumb wrestling. Armando and crew also supplement workouts with nutritional plans to help clients keep weight-loss plans on track.
Ryan Brendel knows it's easier to get fit when you're connecting with others. To motivate his Boba Fitness followers, he posts his own exercise tips, favorite workout songs, and fun pictures to his site and Facebook page. But the inspiration doesn't stop online: he's also a personal trainer, and he even invites exercisers to call him and arrange impromptu buddy workouts.
Inside a 5,000-square-foot space, the trainers of Torrance CrossFit lead clients through intense workouts customized to suit each exerciser's fitness level. The facility includes powerlifting and Barbell Club areas, as well as a gym-visible kids' area where tykes can curl their chapter books while parents work out.
