The mad scientists behind The Challenge Mud Run spend their days playing with mud and surfing the Web for the ideal throwing axe. All that hard work will pay off when they host an intense 5-mile race that challenges the mind and body. During the race, entrants crawl through a dark, semisubmerged and smoke-filled tunnel, swing on monkey bars over a quicksand pit, answer a series of brain teasers, and of course crawl through mud while pretending to be the primordial life form that preceded the crocodile.
If Victor Frankenstein ever took a break from science to design a 5K race, the result would have probably looked something like a Hybrid Hell Run event. Each race in the Hybrid Hell Run series is similar to Frankenstein’s monster: races are gritty, spread out across misshapen terrain, and require every ounce of physical and mental strength to survive.
With each of its races cranking up the intensity level, the series selects locations that are naturally challenging, such as forests, hills, or M. C. Escher’s labyrinthine backyard. The HHR team then brews up a ruthless lineup of physical challenges, maintaining focus on three main categories—cardiovascular endurance, strength, and speed and agility. The finished course tests the athletic prowess of male, female, and youth divisions, with top performers receiving cash rewards.
What do a flower child, a disco dancer, and a hair-metal rocker have in common? If they're at Dash From The Past, they're all running. That's because the 5K encourages its participants to dress up in gear from their favorite decade as they sprint along the course, fooling onlookers into thinking Andy Warhol or Axl Rose are out competing.
Gábor Pásztor has always loved sports, his passion and athleticism leading him to compete in international track-and-field meets on behalf of his home country, Hungary. Today, he brings his speed, endurance, and coordination skills to the United States to help a new generation of soccer and track-and-field stars hone their natural abilities at Citius Athletic Club Miami. At his club, he helms US Soccer Federation–registered soccer teams in competitive play against other local organizations. And he's serious about the sport: He holds practice with four different age groups of students—ranging ages 3–13—three times a week.
In addition to prepping youths for league play, he and his coaches lead fundamentals classes for beginning soccer players. The fundamentals classes cover the same skills and techniques as the competitive practices, but students aren't required to compete in games or maintain perfect pitch during the "National Anthem."

During the Superhero Scramble, racers of all fitness levels tear across arduous terrain littered with body- and mind-challenging obstacles. Participants must wade through mud and, to reach the finish line, persevere through a barrage of Super Slime generously donated by retired Ghostbusters.
Upon completing the race, athletes ride their endorphin high into a party stocked with ice-cold beer. There, they can mingle with other contestants, sway to live music, and see awards doled out to the fastest runners in each age bracket. Male and female Scramble Gamble contestants compete for prizes that can cover the cost of replacing the engines in their sneakers. The benefits of the race extend beyond the Gamble winners, too—the organizers donate a portion of the proceeds to charity.
