Element Six Salon & Spa embraces beautiful geometry. Inside, white mod-style chairs and a desk crisscrossed with white lines announce Element Six’s crisp, modern aesthetic. Panes of mottled glass stand behind the reception area, flanking the entrance to the styling floor, and rectangles of abstract art decorate the walls.
There's an open, minimalist vibe to the décor, one that complements the neat and meticulous work of the staff. Don't be fooled, however—just because the salon is tidy, doesn't mean that its crew can't give your 'do an eye-catching edge.
The team uses products by brands such as Redken and Goldwell to create fresh looks, consulting with clients throughout the appointment to pin down the desired aesthetic. They can imbue strands with color through single-process treatments and highlights, or arrange hair into a nuanced updo. Their bridal services encompass hair and makeup for wedding-party members, and even hair styling for the flower girl, who would otherwise just wear a wig made of AstroTurf. They further groom clients with facial waxing and mani-pedis.
Dean and Lisa Rodrigue always talked about opening their own salon. In 2010, they took the leap and founded Couture Salon, a chic hair salon with dark hardwood floors and upscale touches like brocade accent walls. Since opening they business, they’ve sharpened their hair-styling skills and broadened their service menu. In addition to waxing and spray-tan treatments, they offer facials and eyelash extensions. Couture Salon stays open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays to accommodate the moon if it needs a haircut and those with busy work schedules.
Owner Terri Czerwinski sees Ultimate Skin Care Spa as an oasis where guests can disappear from the calendar grid. Having been a beauty consultant for more than 20 years, the licensed aesthetician hopes to takes minds away from life's bustling moments with skin, nail, and cosmetic treatments. She draws from a stock of European product lines such as Sothys from Paris and Pevonia from Switzerland for all her facials, which target ailments ranging from dryness to sun damage. The natural ingredients in these serums help nurture healthy complexions: seaweed and vitamin C fight wrinkles in the Luminous Renewal facial, whereas the specialty skin facial's chamomile and green-tea extracts fade signs of rosacea.
Terri flatters faces with makeup artistry as well. Her makeup spa sessions cover techniques for applying cosmetics and identify which colors will accentuate each patron’s eyes and their better-looking noses. For special events, she travels to various venues and primps clients onsite.
The staff at Artistic Images shares their hairstyling skills with their clients, but also with other stylists around New England as styling educators. That’s not to say that they don’t keep up with their own training; in fact, they keep abreast of hair’s latest trends in order to cut, color, permanently straighten, or otherwise re-texturize hair in the way their clients envision. Their knowledge as educators helps them make product suggestions so that clients can maintain salon looks at home.
