The music is bumping, the moves are rhythmic, and up to 1,000 calories are burning away. That's just a bit of what Zumba classes are like at ZASS Fitness. In their new studio replete with a new floor, amped-up air conditioner, and extra ceiling fans, certified instructors lead fun, fitness-oriented dance classes. Inspired by Latin dance moves, Zumba enhances cardio, sheds weight, and tones muscles. The instructors also love Zumba because it increases flexibility and encourages self-expression through movement. To augment the festive vibe, the studio hosts parties for kids that include one hour of fitness dancing and another hour for partying.
The gym and the club are usually two different destinations. But they don't have to be. That's where Z Factor Zumba comes in. The fitness center swaps treadmills and free weights for pulse-pounding Zumba classes that introduce students to moves they can use on the dance floor or in the middle of a corporate meeting to break the tension. The dance class, which pairs easy-to-follow steps with energetic Latin rhythms, also revs up metabolism, burning calories and sculpting bodies into lean dancing machines.

The success of Zumba, the Latin-inspired dance-fitness program, begged for spinoff workouts. Today eight Zumba variations exist, seven of which are taught by the licensed instructors at The Z Spot. The troupe teaches original Zumba, as well as Zumba Toning, Zumba in the Circuit, Zumba Gold for seniors, Zumbatomic for youngsters, Zumba Sentao for centaurs, and, at an offsite facility, Aqua Zumba. Each workout engages exercisers with a mix of energetic rhythms, continuous motion, and support from other exercisers in the group.
