"My camp offers a unique quality," says Mark Karver, the owner and director of BCC Basketball Camp. "I played professional basketball for 11 years and I have taught elementary school for 11 years." A veteran of the European and Israeli basketball leagues, Mark returned to the US to put his degree in education to use. During the summers, though, he shares his ongoing passion for hoops with kids ages 6 to 14.
Mark breaks down each camp day into sessions that focus on different skills. Kids rotate through the various stations, working on everything from defensive footwork to reverse back-flip slam dunks. To keep things fun, Mark also peppers each camp with guest speakers, games, and contests.
Roger Mason Jr. was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2002 and played for numerous NBA teams during his basketball career, including defending NBA champs the Miami Heat. At Roger Mason Jr. Basketball Camp, he happily trades his position as player for that of coach and inspirational guide. In a state-of-the-art facility with air-conditioned courts, Roger and his staff impart the fundamentals of the game upon budding hoopsters. Camps include drills, instructional play, and one-on-one instruction, and students have a chance to hone their social skills and be a part of a team, where they'll learn to share the ball, run plays, and create air- and water-tight huddles. The camp offers programs for many age levels for both boys and girls.
Sport Fit's gold membership grants aspiring athletes and established exercisers 30 consecutive days of calisthenics, including unfettered access to fitness centers and motivational group-exercise classes. Sport Fit's Bowie location boasts basketball and tennis courts, as well as a variety of indoor pools for swimming laps, alleviating aches, and trying to find Nemo.
