Founded in 1977, Huntington Learning Center employs a battalion of highly trained tutors who help students succeed both at school and in standardized testing. The academic evaluation, consisting of exams performed in a simulated classroom environment, yields a comprehensive collection of data that tutors use to design a custom learning program and a personalized, in-class obstacle course.
At Intensity Personal Fitness, National Academy of Sports Medicine–certified trainer Vincent Swiderski and his team of qualified fitness professionals offer clients of all ages one-on-one guidance in effective workout techniques. The results is a set of high-intensity routines that build functional strength and organic mobility. Personal trainers push students past their fitness goals with positive motivation and technical know-how.
HeartStart Express turns everyday citizens into life savers with CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator), and first-aid courses. Those certification courses cover performing CPR, using an AED, and applying first aid to adults, as well as children and infants. They can also certify healthcare professionals in basic life support, enabling them to recognize life-threatening emergencies and execute proper procedures such as CPR. Classes take place online, at one's place of business, or at other designated sites throughout the region.
The Hope Center for Autism is a public charter school that teaches prekindergarten through second grade and empowers children with autism. The center’s curriculum incorporates applied behavior-analysis techniques and low staff-to-student ratios to ensure each student receives a comprehensive education. Children also undergo anywhere from 2 to 30 hours of therapy every week in a one-on-one setting, with each session tailored to their individual needs and goals.
Palm Language Center offers two levels of language classes, the first focusing on conversational facility before moving on to such technical matters as verbs, grammar, and how to pronounce “onomatopoeia” in any language. Palm's two instructors split polyglot duties between them, with European native Marie Francis taking Italian and Spanish, leaving Moroccan-born Driss Siyas with classical Arabic and French.
Understanding that each child learns differently, the staff members of Sylvan Learning Center’s numerous study centers design custom lesson programs. Based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews, the staff works with students to help them firmly grasp basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and how to remember facts without tattooing them to their chests. Programs target students in kindergarten through grade 12 and mold to various learning styles, helping kids feel more comfortable in the classroom. After-school or summer classes can ready high-school students for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or wow college admissions officers with their superior writing skills, exemplary test scores, and willingness to arm-wrestle the school mascot.
