Since 1921, Army & Navy Store has worked to supply local residents with the necessities for interacting with a variety of geographical features. The shop began as an outfitter for rail workers and miners, preventing them from having to dig with boots stolen from the town giant, before expanding to carry Army and Navy surplus goods from World War II. Currently, it specializes in outdoor gear and employs an experienced staff to assist guests in searching for specialized equipment for camping, cycling, fishing, exercise, and watersports.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, as party songs thump in the background, lasers beam over a row of 24 lanes—each home to a rack of glowing pins—and reflect off their thin layer of oil into the fog. Of course, Playdrome Devon Lanes hosts regular open-bowling hours throughout the rest of the week, when it echoes with the sound of crashing pins and celebratory sirens from the on-site arcade. Though unseen, heard, or smelled, the signal from complimentary WiFi streams through the air as well, allowing players to post their high scores online or to look up the cheat codes that enable the bowling balls' rocket boosters. Playdrome Devon Lanes also allows customers to bring their own food and beverages.
Town & Country Lanes is a smoke-free family center that hosts rollers of all stripes, from children using helpful bumpers to pros battling it out during tournaments. Four nights a week, laser lights cut through clouds of fog as players' song requests drown out the sounds of strikes, spares, and self-administered high-fives. Between games, bowlers can keep their fingers busy at the arcade or fuel their stomachs with food and drinks from the snack bar and pub.
Lehigh Valley Dive Center's owners spend a lot of time underwater everywhere from the Cooper River to the Bahamas, doing everything from searching for treasure to looking at exotic marine life. In order for others to experience the same amazing sights, they teach students to safely dive in introductory and certification scuba classes. They complement classroom training with hands-on sessions in pools and, eventually, the open water itself. Once divers gain confidence and skill, the owners invite them along on diving trips around the globe or just to stop into the store to talk shop.
At Bethlehem's Steel Ice Center, two NHL-sized ice surfaces host hordes of merry skaters, and the state-of-the-art sound system, party rooms, heated rink-side seats, and snack bar keep energy levels high. Suit up, lace up, and whirl around the ice with family and friends during one of Steel Ice Center's public skating sessions, which are currently scheduled throughout the week during both the afternoon and evening hours.
