Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) aims to make high-quality preschool education accessible to all children in Los Angeles. LAUP supports more than 320 preschools across the county with grants used to cover the costs of student tuition and supplement teachers' salaries and educational materials. In addition to monetary support, LAUP's early-childhood educators work in classrooms to assist teachers in enhancing program quality and to ensure that preschools are engaging parents to be their children's primary teachers. These specialists also work with preschools on specific developmental needs of children and their families, such as obesity prevention and children with special needs.
Cruddy duds transform into eye-fetching attire at Palm Center Cleaners, a family-owned facility devoted to abolishing stains and smoothing out wrinkles. Palm Center’s crew can scour the surfaces of formal and casual garb, treating shirts, pants, and suits to a shrink-free cleansing drier than a lecture on how to lecture. Gentle cleansings of suede and leather are also available, as are alterations and shirt pressing.
The staff at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) believe that every child deserves a chance to pursue their education and develop to their potential within a safe, nurturing environment. To that end, they provide a home away from home for thousands of kids who attend inner-city schools and live in dangerous neighborhoods with prevalent gangs and drug use. At its campus, located in and around Lafayette Park, HOLA's professional staff and volunteers provide free afterschool programs that include academics, arts, and athletics for youth aged 6–19.
HOLA also partners with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to supply young people with much-needed activity space and a safe environment. Together, the organizations set aside a turf soccer field, outdoor basketball courts, plus a brand-new gym for youth to use.
Because they believe books should be available to everyone, Ready, Set, Read! hosts parent education programs and classroom lending libraries to get children reading at home. During bilingual workshops, parents can learn techniques such as the dialogic method, which uses open-ended questions and discussions to engage children in content, making reading aloud fun for young children at home. The program focuses on demonstrating how influential the parents’ role is in developing literacy skills and self-confidence. Since 2000, volunteers and educators with Ready, Set, Read! have built more than 160 classroom lending libraries, taught more than 27,000 local parents to read with their children on a regular basis, and distributed as many books to those families.

A volunteer-based organization, EnrichLA helps promote thoughtful, healthful eating habits by building gardens at public schools. After working with the city to get permits, EnrichLA volunteers work with school employees to determine the best uses of the garden, and then raise funds for the garden's construction and subsequent school-gardening classes.
To prepare for planting, EnrichLA volunteers install sinks with running water, outdoor kitchens, and drip systems to water the garden, and build picnic tables, trellises, and raised garden beds. Once a school garden and fundraising is complete, the volunteers teach weekly classes where students can learn everything from composting and cooking to beekeeping. Students can also enjoy nutritious snacks straight from the garden.
