At Splash! Buccaneer Bay Waterpark, the sun's rays sift through tall palms and glisten on explosions of water as families rocket out of twirly slides into the pool. After shooting out of those slides, they can grab a tube and head for the lazy river, then clamber over a marooned pirate ship surrounded by cannon walls and benches made from wharf planks. A skull rock keeps watch while some take respite from the heat beneath canopies resembling sails. To keep kids 48" and shorter giggling, there's a Spray Pad Zone with fountains to run through and cascades of water, a zero-depth beach, and dumping buckets. The adjacent 25-yard pool is open to all ages, giving guests ample room to play Marco Polo or a game of underwater chess.
At the end of the day, everyone can refuel at the Big Backyard Grille. There, families dine on pizzas and burgers and keep cool with Hawaiian shaved ice. Splash! Buccaneer Bay Waterpark offers free parking, and life jackets and tubes are included at no extra charge.

Whittier Narrows trains and nurtures novice and advanced tennis players with its roster of iTennis lessons, USTA adult league teams, and well-kept courts. Each of Whittier Narrows’ 16 courts are painted U.S. Open shades of blue and green to emulate professional play and increase ball visibility, and are fully lighted for nighttime and solar eclipse play. Tennis center memberships entitle players to complimentary perks such as a one-hour drill clinic, a racket demo program, weekly stroke clinics, and free ball machine rental (during off-peak hours), as well as a 10% discount in the pro shop and discounts on classes. After rinsing away sweat and lingering grunts in the men’s and women’s locker rooms, an airy member lounge invites athletes to relax on a leather couch and enjoy wireless Internet, a flat-screen television, and refreshments.
At Top Tennis at La Habra Tennis Center, shots skip and spring across a dozen pro-grade courts seven days per week. Recognizing that tennis, like competitive puppy petting, is one of the few sports that can be played from childhood through the golden years, the professionally staffed USTA facility makes sure to serve up programs for all ages and skill levels. Programs for advanced players provide competitive and tournament training, whereas youth services, such as 8 and Under programs, teach pintsize racket holders the basics on smaller-scale courts. Yearly memberships, USTA leagues, and pay-to-play options round out the center's arsenal of specialties, and an onsite pro-shop stocks the latest shoes, rackets, and accessories so players won't have to download gear onto their bodies before each match.
In 1969, at the age of 34, J. Hyon set aside his career as a master of martial arts to try out golf and he hasn't put the club down since. Though he got a bit of a late start, Hyon has managed to qualify for 27 Champions Tours, including three U.S. Senior Opens. As he got older, Hyon realized that conventional swing techniques were no longer working for him. So he simplified the process, and built a new method around what he calls impact position–or, the deciding factor in whether a ball stays on the straight and narrow or heads down a road paved with drugs and booze. Today, instructor Hyon teaches his method to students at Golf Easy Way, where he offers lessons in both full swing and putting.
Los Amigos Golf Course doesn't waste any time challenging players: the very first hole is also the longest hole, clocking in at a whopping 516 yards. Designed by revered architect Bill Bell, the course tests golfers with beautiful yet hazardous tree-lined greens and a pair of shimmering lakes. So players can conquer the course's hurdles without having to parachute balls from a well-placed helicopter, Los Amigos offers plenty of instructional opportunities, including lessons for groups and entire families. The facility also boasts an expansive practice area, complete with large putting greens, chipping zones, and a night-lit driving range with both mat and grass tees.
The course and its facilities can also be rented out for weddings, quincea?eras, business meetings, and other events. And like its name, several employees at Los Amigos Golf Course are bilingual.
