Certified massage therapist and Crystal Clear Massage Inc. owner Marisa J. Kantrowitz calls on her own education as well as her experience as an instructor to soothe sore backs and shoulders with a variety of massage services. Whether treating torsos to the long, flowing strokes of a Swedish massage or tending to specific ailments with sports and medical massages, Marisa’s nimble hands pass on a range of physical and psychological benefits. Chronic aches and pains succumb to the firm pressures of a deep-tissue massage, and pregnancy massages soothe babies stressed from sharing wombs with incubating aliens. Aromatherapy essences and essential oils extracted from plants can be added to any massage to incorporate all of the senses into the healing process.
Located in the heart of the Virginia Beach oceanfront, Salon@31st has been servicing the Hampton Roads area for over 4 years, striving to provide an exceptional client experience and offering cutting edge styling.
Joseph Lupino, founder and owner of Anew Body Oasis, has been garnering massage knowledge since he was 5 years old. Following in his grandmother's footsteps, Lupino learned the art of massage and its ability to treat much more than just cranky muscles. "[My grandparents] were not prone to run to a doctor like we do today," he said, a philosophy that has stuck with him through his working life. Lupino received a degree in psychology, and he quickly found his skills in massage came in handy in his new profession. He used "massage to calm irate patients in the psychiatric wards." His coworkers warned that entering a frenzied patient's room without a sedative in hand would get him killed, but a few minutes after he had done just that, "[he] walked out [without] a scratch," and the patient was peaceful again.
Though Lupino loves the study of psychology, he kept coming back to massage. He eventually got his massage license and, in 1991, founded Anew Body Oasis. His diverse professional repertoire has left him with stellar interpersonal skills—he is able to assess what kind of music clients want to hear during treatments, how experienced they are with massage, and what the name of their firstborn child should be. A new massage client may receive a gentler, more soothing massage, and veteran guests are apt to receive firmer strokes. Lupino's team of therapists uses combinations of 10 massage modalities during candlelit treatments tailored to individual needs.
