Groves of oaks and georgia pines reflect off the glassy surface of strategically placed water hazards at Southbridge Golf Club?s 18-hole course, the grassy brainchild of renowned course architect Rees Jones. Soaring above the 6,922-yard layout, wayward golf balls may carom off of the dense population of timbers, nestle into the pillowy sands of deep bunkers, or sink into the abyss of ponds, streams, and lava pits that come into play on nearly every hole. Large greens await at the end of each hole, eager to befuddle golfers with breaking putts and a fast, well-maintained surface. An onsite driving range nurtures golfers relationships with their clubs, and a menu of fresh meat, seafood, and salad at the genteel diner of Vickery?s at Southbridge curbs hunger that may sap strength from drives or preempt post-round putter-jousting competitions. Course at a Glance: Designed by Rees Jones 18-hole, par 72 course Length of 6,992 yards from the farthest tees Course rating of 74.1 from the farthest tees Slope rating of 134 from the farthest tees Four tee options

The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous study facilities understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don?t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews. Tutors work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan?s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. After-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.

The 35th annual Savannah Scottish Games celebrates the sounds, tastes, and sporting events of the Highlanders. Long before tatties-and-neeps-eating contests became popular, Highland competitions built up the endurance and celebrated the victories of Scottish regiments. Watch Scots hone their warrior skills by competing in amateur Heavy Athletics events, including caber toss and hammer throw. Dancers from all age groups compete in the Highland Dancing Southern Regional Championship with four traditional dances, including the fling, a complex, multistep jig that involves two participants tossing a lukewarm rutabaga back and forth. The bagpipe band and individual piper competition opens the games' ceremonies with a parade of pipers, and live music continues throughout the day with Scottish balladeer Alex Beaton along with Cynergy, featuring master fiddler Moira Nelligan.

Certified professional photographers Michael and Angela Koska impart fledgling photogs with digital-picture-taking knowledge during the four-hour workshop. The class is divided into three parts—Digital Basics, Taking Better Pictures, and What to Do After the Shoot—to cover all aspects of digital photography. Each camera crusader will learn the fundamentals and snapshooting, from how to use the flash correctly, to how to take pictures quickly enough to capture an image of The Flash. Students will also study backgrounds, foregrounds, and how to get up-close and personal without invading someone's personal space. Before the class ends, aspiring Annie Leibovitzes will know how to eliminate instances of red-eye and what camera angles best capture replicas of The Thinker made entirely of discarded pizza boxes.

The six women who perform hair, makeup, and wardrobe styling for FashionShots are truly an elite team: among them, their work has been featured in Vogue, on E!, at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and in Modern Salon magazine. Their impressive skill enables them to work on a variety of projects, from senior photos and boudoir shoots to headshots for aspiring models and commercial work. Whatever the project, the complete hair-makeup-and-wardrobe experience is designed to make each client feel like a model for a day. Subjects will prep for their shoot by reviewing a Mood Board, an email from the photographer with suggestions for outfits, hair styles, and makeup. The day of, clients bring in 3-5 complete outfits, and will then be coached through the shoot by a photographer who is also a former model. Afterward, subjects will go through the images with the photographer, selecting their favorites for complete retouching and printing.

Although instructors Travis Clark and Jon Gillespie lead Southeast Photo Adventures's workshops and excursions, they share the teaching load with the shores of Tybee Island and the depths of Cloudland Canyon. Students shoot shoulder-to-shoulder with instructors amid these sprawls of striking Southeastern scenery, whether they're enrolled in 2.5-hour workshops, Foto Field Trips open to workshop grads, or weekend-long adventures. The field-trip-style outings are open to all skill levels, but beginners can also enhance their expertise in introductory courses on Photoshop, digital photography, and DSLR cameras' complex settings, which control everything from shutter speed to the tiny red light bulb behind each of our eyes.
