Zoom Multisport Racing encourages triathlon and duathlon racing in the Midwest with events that welcome athletes ranging from average to elite. Its signature race series is the Zoom Triathlon & Duathlon Championship Series, which hosts three races spread across the summertime. During each event, competitors swim through 1,000 yards of open water in Caesar Creek Lake (or run 2 miles for the duathlon), bike through 18 miles of Warren County, and run across 4 miles of dirt and concrete pathways in Caesar Creek State Park. Since each race is identical, athletes can track their progress by the change in time it takes to complete each race and number of hot dogs they can consume afterward without going cross-eyed. Zoom Multisport also teams up with Trimble Triathlon Multisport Coaching Services to offer the Couch to Competition training plan, designed to help chisel beginning muscles into Grecian works of art.
Anytime Fitness makes it easier for average folks to etch out time for exercise by doing one simple thing: staying open 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. As fit-seekers challenge themselves on Precor cardio and strength machines and hoist free weights in clean, well-stocked facilities, security monitoring ensures they’re safe and producing enough sweat to meet official government standards. Members can also ramp up their exercise regimens with the help of Anytime Fitness’ staff of personal trainers, who demonstrate moves and sling motivating tips. After workouts, guests can shower in the private restrooms.
No one knows the healing power of yoga therapy as intimately as Sheri Glackin who, after living with chronic back pain caused by four herniated discs, was able to heal herself with yoga therapy in a few months. She knew immediately that she wanted to teach others how to heal without invasive surgeries or body swaps, and she became certified as a yoga therapist and Reiki practitioner.
Today, her yoga-therapy sessions help ailing clients repair their bodies through hands-on yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation. Yoga therapy is more like physical therapy than traditional yoga, and it is tailored to treat chronic pain and stress with specific movements. Sheri also balances energy with relaxing Reiki sessions.
Women’s workout routines take flight at Femme Fatale Fitness. Students perform controlled maneuvers, dangling from aerial silks or learning aerial hooping and impressive tricks on a static trapeze as instructors teach circus-inspired classes that gently tone muscles and boost flexibility. Alternatively, guests amp up core strength in pole-fitness classes that show ladies how to perform airborne routines with sassy twists and spins around chrome poles. All of Femme Fatale Fitness’s classes, which also include cardio kickboxing, burlesque, and chair dancing, aim to help women feel more confident in their bodies, resulting in higher self-esteem without having to invest in costly magic mirrors.
Inside an 800-square-foot room heated between 95–100 degrees, students sweat out their doubts as they flow through a set of 26 interconnected poses that unlock their inner potential. While a scene like this may seem ripped from the comics, the secret training regimen of an elite fighting force, it’s just business as usual for the trainers at Hot Yoga and Wellness Center. Leading four to five 60- to 90-minute classes each day, instructors tap into time-tested Eastern techniques that enhance flexibility, improve circulation, and flush toxins. The instructors also host special programs such as a 30-day challenge, during which participants practice hot yoga for 30 consecutive days. After class, guests can shower and use the changing rooms. In the lobby, they can savor a tea or espresso while browsing the facility’s stock of nutritional supplements, which use natural materials to bolster bodies more effectively than a treadmill made entirely out of apple cores. The studio also offers a selection of nonslip surface yoga mats, skin firming wraps, and zen-inspired bracelets made with manmade turquoise, Chinese crystals, and dyed jade.
As a licensed Zumba instructor, Yira Bales leads fitness sessions that combine the calorie-burning rigor of a workout with the fun of a dance party, all set to upbeat Latin tunes. She's also certified in PiYo classes, which blend Zumba with elements of pilates and yoga.
