At three brightly colored locations, Children's Land Learning Center fosters imaginations and cognitive abilities with early-childhood educational programs that seek to inspire children's enthusiasm for learning while meeting social, intellectual, and physical needs. In addition to state-licensed kindergarten classes, programs nurture and cultivate the minds of tots as young as 15 months, and daycare for children from six weeks to five years old. Activities cover topics such as art, music, dance, Taekwondo, math, and foreign languages.
Delivery Produce Company co-owners Zac Mitton and John Geary are pretty picky. When they work with farms to procure fresh fruits and veggies for their customers, it feels like they're picking teams for a garden's kickball game. Freshly plucked produce, which at any given time might include fresh blueberries, peaches, spinach, carrots, and vine-on tomatoes, make the cut; aging veggies have to sit on the sidelines and pretend they didn't want to play anyway. Once the two acquire these precious edibles—which are sourced, in summer months, from local, Midwestern farms—they deliver them directly to homes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Photographer Peter Furla sees a potential shot wherever he looks. To him, the "L" stop at Randolph and Wabash is a backdrop for an engagement photo. One of Chicago's old, time-worn buildings is the perfect spot for a newly married couple—still clad in tuxedo and gown—to pose for their wedding photos. Or maybe the photographer stays in-studio, allowing himself complete control over every shot. It's in the studio that he often creates portraits for children and families.
Peter Furla developed a creative eye at an early age thanks to his father, who originally opened Furla Photography in 1945—a family owned operation in business for two generations. Peter started working alongside his father in 1978, and he hasn't stopped snapping photos since. His work has led to numerous awards and features in well-known publications.
As a complement to Peter Furla's photography, Chris Chibucos runs FurlaVision, the studio's video arm. Mr. Chibucos and his team—who have won their own fair share of accolades—shoot and edit high-definition footage of weddings and special events. The result is a finished product as stylish and panoptic as a documentary film.
Tension and worry creep through the body, elbowing into sleep, pinching at joints, and generally making life unpleasant. As harbingers of that larger monster, stress, they are formidable foes—but they prove no match for the staff of The Chicago Stress Relief Center. Led by founder Dr. Howard K. Weissman, the team develops personalized plans to help clients to manage mental and physical ailments. Concerns can be washed away with water and heat during flotation-tank and infrared-sauna sessions that afford clients solitary peace and quiet. Further aid takes the form of massage and art therapy, yoga sessions, and unlimited rolls of bubble wrap ready to be popped.
