The teachers at Kindermusik Discovery know that children’s minds are fertile ground for learning. That’s why they use singing, dancing, and instrument exploration to sow the seeds of language development, social skills, and coordination. Rooted in the belief that all children are naturally musical, their program’s research-based philosophy operates on a curriculum whose methods allow children to move at their own pace as they grow from infancy to age 7. Throughout the whole program the educators emphasize having fun. The encouraging atmosphere helps pupils develop a love of music from an early age while also enhancing literacy skills, social and emotional development, math skills, and pattern recognition. Acknowledging that most learning takes place at home, the program also equips students with materials such as books and CDs for taking back to the sandcastles they live in.
Purely Baby celebrates infants and their mothers from the first months of pregnancy to the early years of childhood. Along the way, parents and children are supported by owner Becky Heather, a mother of two, certified breastfeeding counsellor, and childbirth educator. She partners with an experienced staff of certified yoga instructors, registered massage therapists, a photographer, and a craniosacral practitioner, many of whom are parents as well. Together, they provide services including yoga classes, newborn photography, massages, and pre- and postnatal seminars to help clients through every aspect of pregnancy and childcare.
Along with in-house care, Purely Baby stocks its own brand of lotions and body wash for mothers, infants, and curious teenagers. A selection of Innotech Nutrition’s capsules and drinks further support healthy bodies.
Music for Young Children's network of 900 teachers across three continents awakens an insatiable thirst for knowledge in youth via brain-building music programs. Children and their parents come together to share a fun, fruitful learning experience during MYC's signature classes, where they plunge hand-in-hand into the world of music theory by playing keyboards, creating movements for lyric-heavy songs, and sight-reading compositions. During group exercises, children learn how to arrange notes on a piece of sheet music to indicate repetition and express their angst about finishing their vegetables at the dinner table.
MYC also gives youngsters the opportunity to show off what they've learned with its annual International Composition Festival, where pint-sized composers representing regions throughout the globe compete to see who has the most impressive original composition.
In his 30 years as an artist, Guy St. Godard has used watercolour to capture the vibrant landscapes of such reaches as Vancouver Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador. A graduate of the University of Manitoba, his works are vividly shaded celebrations of nature, depicting tranquil waterways and nostalgic farmlands populated by rusted, forgotten trucks. Guy has also turned his talents to teaching for the past six years. During lessons, he instructs small groups in the fine techniques of brush strokes and how many licks it takes to prepare a watercolour palette. He continues to travel to shows, and his works are displayed in private collections across Canada, the United States, and Germany.
Since fur traders and explorers first voyaged along the shores, lakes, and rivers of the province, Manitoba has celebrated a rich tradition of sailing. At 1020 hours on August 5, 1965, a group of yachtsmen and sailors drew from this history to inaugurate the first provincial sailing association, embarking on a storied career of legendary races and regattas, expert-led lessons, and an expansion of a network of affiliated clubs. Throughout the years, mariners at Sail Manitoba have promoted the thrill and joy of sailing through a biannual magazine, admirable performances at boating competitions, and informative courses. With teams of CYA-certified instructors on hand at affiliated marinas, students can easily learn the figurative as well as very literal ropes of sailing, or brush up before their mandatory boaster licence exams.
