Though Shindleman Aquatic Centre is an indoor water park, visitors encounter some pretty thrilling ways to relive the carefree days of summer. One giant 212-foot waterslide takes riders on twisting journeys, while the smaller kids splash around in a tot-sized play area. Even the wave pool mimics the seashore with zero-depth entry. Meanwhile, guests take it easy on the lazy river, where they can drift around and imagine how much more fun school would be if it had one of these.

A quarter-kilometre track serves as Speedworld’s centerpiece, goading drivers around nine turns ranging from wide sweeping bends to hairpin curves. The straightaways allow easy passing for the track’s fleet of vehicles, which include sprint cars that accelerate up to 40 km/h and race karts that max out at 50 km/h. 13-horsepower Honda engines power the cars and propel drivers across the finish line as the ChronX automatic timing system documents their journey more swiftly than an hourglass containing only one grain of sand. Outside the driver’s seat, visitors can cheer on other racers from a viewing area framed in floor-to-ceiling windows and sound-insulated walls that block out the sound of rival fans cheering from the track. A mezzanine area outfitted with a refrigerator and microwave can seat parties of 7–30, rendering it an ideal venue for birthday parties, corporate events, or car-eating truck-rally monsters trying to stick to their diets.

Panels of drywall form an intricate labyrinth of walls and rooms inside Xtreme Tactics' 14,000-square-foot airsoft arena. Opposing teams softly tread through the warren, taking cover behind walls and shooting their foes through windows. Their weapons of choice are full-scale replicas of real firearms, whose plastic BBs help sideline adversaries and move teams closer to completing tactical, war-like scenarios. As real as the battles get, not all matches are grounded in reality—in the past, the arena has played host to games based on terrifying fantasies, such as the zombie apocalypse or Keebler elves going on strike. Helmets, masks, and tactical vests protect players during games, and when the final blow has been served, they can restock on guns and equipment from Xtreme Tactics' massive pro-shop.

Beneath locally crafted hanging artwork, visitors to Ellice Cafe & Theatre dine on house-made café fare as they view family-friendly films inside a nonprofit community theatre. Pre- and post-show diners can tear into the eatery's signature meatloaf, which refuels empty body tanks alongside mashed potatoes that, like Mr. Potato Head after a shower, are drenched in gravy. Vegetarian and meat pizza ingredients are generously piled upon handmade herbed crusts, while house-made muffins, apricot-date squares, and other dessert specialties add a sweet epilogue to meals. Meanwhile, the theatre’s packed calendar of events includes an ever-changing lineup of films, live theatre productions, and staged re-enactments of the previous day’s live theatre production.

In Vertical Adventures’ 5,000-square-foot climbing gym, visitors scale colourful walls or traverse the bouldering gym, backed by ground support from staffers and automatic belayers. Climbers of all levels can hone their technique by practicing independently with the gym’s rental equipment or through an array of courses for children and adults. Instructors teach belaying, rappelling, and other basics, along with more advanced self-rescue techniques such as always carrying a fold-up helicopter. The gym also hosts birthday parties for groups of six or more, where a dedicated staff member helps guests to familiarize themselves with equipment and optimize their safety.

The bowler releases the ball so smoothly that it barely makes a sound upon hitting the lane, heightening the crack when the ball finally collides with the pins. You can witness this scene at Academy Bowling Lanes, where Brunswick automatic-scoring systems record each roll down the alleys' polished lanes. Bumpers are on hand to clog the gutters and improve scores. On select evenings, the concourses transform into a cosmic-bowling arena with laser systems, black lights, fog machines, and music leading up the night's closing event, the landing of a real spacecraft. Food and bar services supply guests with refreshments such as pizza, popcorn, and fountain pop.
