Stylist Paula Miller has more than 15 years of hairstyling experience, which she puts to use cutting, conditioning, and coloring hair from a bright and airy booth inside Willamette Hair Studios. She also adds volume and texture to locks with updos and perms. Paula uses Vivitone, Colure True Color Care, Joico, and ISO haircare products, among others.
Today, she's a master stylist, but before beauty school, Hali Owens focused on psychology while immersed in a criminal justice curriculum. Since shifting to her true passion, however, she's cultivated a service menu that ranges from bang trims to elaborate wedding updos topped with three-tier cakes. Despite all these choices, Owens advises guests not to get too overwhelmed: "Don?t worry about knowing exactly what you want," she says. "I am glad to help you decide and make the process as easy and stress-free as possible." Customers are able to relax in Owens's chair, knowing they can depend on her 15 years' experience and expert eye to shape and color the perfect hairdo. Her specialties help clients feel their best, and to Owens, that's the best part of the job: "My favorite moment," she says, "is when my client looks in the mirror at the finished look and I can see their confidence rise!"
It’s 2008 and Tobie Theis is thinking about her next move. For 15 years she’s been sharpening her hair- and nail-styling skills while working in a number of different salons. But, she wants the autonomy to fulfill her potential and make her vision for a salon real. Together with her husband Joe, the two set off to finally achieve a mutual lifelong dream: owning their own salon.
Since that bold step, Tobie has overseen the blossoming of Eden's Apple Salon & Day Spa into a full-service beauty oasis that offers everything from haircuts and extensions to massages and tanning. Within three months, Tobie and Joe had completely renovated the interior of the salon, filling it out with arched thresholds, shelves full of salon products, and a wall-sized mural of a beautiful woman. In time, her team also grew, now including eight hairstylists, two aestheticians, a licensed massage therapist, a nail technician, and the woman in the mural—whose large eyes can spot any aesthetic imperfections.
Jack-o’-lanterns have the most radiant faces, and not just because they have actual flames backlighting their smiles. The radiance also comes from a pumpkin’s salutary blend of vitamin C, antioxidants, and enzymes. Hence the key ingredient in the botanical facial and peel at Cosmos Déjà Vu Salon. This inventive approach to skincare exemplifies the care and attention the salon’s licensed aesthetician, Alison, lends to her clients’ faces. For her half-dozen facials, she calls upon other natural ingredients such as seaweed and honey to exfoliate and cleanse visages. Alison also performs a full menu of makeup services, including bridal packages and tutorials for students eager to kick their daily routines up a notch.
Tropical Waves Salon evokes an island paradise, from the exotic plants and greenery throughout the space to its decor, which includes wicker furniture and oversized flip-flops that hang on the salon's sand-colored walls. The hairstylists can produce beach-ready looks, too, from gilded highlights to spiral perms. Tropical Waves also has skin and nail technicians on hand who offer pampering spa facials, swift hair removal, and mani-pedis complete with sea-salt exfoliation.
