The Oasis Club & Spa is a women-only fitness center and spa—a haven for working out and relaxing in comfortable surroundings accented by sleek hardwood floors and plenty of natural light. Members can head to the gym for cardio and weight training, or for group classes such as Zumba, Body Pump, and cycling. Or, they can saunter to the salon for haircuts, updos, and highlights. The spa's facials, massages, and spray tanning indulge members with enough luxury to make a queen order her personal spa shopper to buy the spa and make it hers, all hers.
Any climber who's passed through Davis or Sacramento in the last two decades has probably spent some time in the Rocknasium. Founded in 1992, the mom-and-pop climbing shop is one of the oldest indoor climbing gyms in the United States. Rebuilt for its 20th anniversary, the gym is now bigger than ever, with
climbing enthusiasts scrambling over 5000 square feet of recreated terrain. Sporting more than two dozen toprope stations, a 16-foot bouldering wall, and a mammoth lead climbing roof (complete with stalactites), the gym lets climbers practice their craft without ever leaving its cool, climate-controlled confines.
These extensive climbing resources helped the shop establish its tight-knit community of climbers, but Rocknasium's fitness offerings go far beyond the vertical. A full complement of cardio and weight training machines help members meet traditional fitness goals, and a dedicated yoga room hosts a full schedule of group classes. The gym also employs certified personal trainers and other instructors, whose insights and personal attention can optimize any workout routine. No matter what exercises they choose, members can clean up afterward with a hot, relaxing shower complete with towel service.
In addition to meeting the needs of serious climbers, Rocknasium also welcomes beginners looking to make their first ascent. The gym frequently hosts kids' birthday parties, summer and after-school programs, and even corporate teambuilding exercises. They also have a portable climbing wall used for on-location climbing whenever miniature mountains aren't available.
Since 1981, the family-owned-and-operated Davis Athletic Club has served as a multipurpose fitness stop for visitors of all ages. Its gym equipment inhabits specialized facilities for strength training, cardio workouts, and martial arts drills, and the indoor soccer field and basketball court accommodate both casual and competitive players. With two heated pools—one for laps and one for functional exercise—members can practice aqua aerobics or earn a master’s degree in floating from swim school. Nearly every room of the 24,000-square-foot space also hosts group classes, channeling the power of camaraderie to transform physiques through Zumba, yoga and Les Mills’s BodyPump routines.
The staff, from certified personal trainers to childcare supervisors, all devote individualized attention to each guest. With amenities including a CrossFit gym and hair salon, the club unites its members under a roof that covers countless approaches to health.
The class is small, a cluster of hard-working students lift their legs as an instructor walks around them to check posture and adjust forms. The instructors at ReVibe Pilates & Bodywork purposefully keep their Pilates classes intimate to ensure they can attend to each student in turn. This enables the teachers to better help their charges as they build core, arm, and leg muscles by performing exercises on the Reformer machines or on the mat.
In addition to mat and reformer classes, the team also leads Barre ReVibe sessions that use ballet-inspired exercises to create long and lithe physiques. Massage therapists, meanwhile, are on hand to help students recover from injury or stress with treatments such as Swedish massage, hot stone therapy, or group hugs.
Workouts at Yolo CrossFit aren't limited to one genre or even one terrain, which enables guests of all levels feel comfortable and challenged. An outdoor training arena and 25-meter, temperature-controlled lap pool tempt athletes outside. Indoor group workouts include Pilates, spin, Zumba, Ripped, and yoga, although members are welcome to work up a sweat on the outdoor basketball court. Staffers at Yolo CrossFit help customers adjust movements during any exercise, including functional training and gymnastic movement. Onsite childcare gives parents the freedom to pursue personal-training sessions or massage therapy.
Before Results the Training Gym was opened, co-founder Matt Weaver was 120 pounds heavier than he is today. Overweight and diagnosed with diabetes, Matt decided to make a change. However, when he started looking for ways to get healthy, his search came up short and so he decided to figure it out on his own.
Weaver took the time to study all about nutrition, fitness, and weight loss, synthesizing this knowledge into a training program for himself. Once he started seeing results in his own body, Weaver decided to share his findings with others, and thus Results was born. The gym focuses on creating a fitness family, thanks to a team of dedicated trainers who take each guest's health as seriously as they do. Exercise programs include a variety of fitness styles, including boot camp, an intense interval training class, and Zumba.
