In the late 1970s career educators Eileen and Raymond Huntington opened the first Huntington Learning Center in Oradell, New Jersey. Their goal was to take an individualized approach to education, adjusting instructional tactics according to each student's set of needs. Their success in helping K–12 students prepare for exams and improve grades and study skills quickly spawned franchises across New York, New Jersey, and elsewhere.
Today, the certified Huntington tutoring staff utilizes testing and rubrics for assessing each child's skills, academic needs and potential for growth. The teachers even note the student's behavior in different testing and academic situations to craft a methodology sensitive to each child's learning style. Teachers also adhere to the company's code of ethics that stresses professionalism and confidentiality and encourages pupils to improve their grades honestly through dedicated study rather than shortcuts.
The Atlanta Martial Art Center teaches myriad martial arts, including those conceived by the likes of Bruce Lee and Brazil's famed Gracie family. The head instructor, Todd Williams, combines them into cohesive lessons that teach jeet kune do, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, combat-submission wrestling, filipino kali, and youth mixed martial arts. This diversity stems from Todd's own journey to black belt under his master, Sifu Alan Baker. Baker boasts quite a r?sum?, including induction into the WHFSC International Martial Arts Hall of Fame and stints training security and SWAT teams.
The school adheres to a practical martial-arts philosophy, with classes focusing on self-defense techniques no matter what style they're conducted in. Students learn practical moves to protect themselves or loved ones from harm, learning to fend off unarmed attackers as well as people armed with weapons or dangerously cushy focus pads.
At North Atlanta Fencing Center, students learn to lunge and parry in the Olympic style under a coaching staff that includes USFA-certified instructors, internationally ranked competitors, and former collegiate champions. The center’s programs divide pupils into classes based on age and ability, allowing everyone the opportunity to improve footwork, test strategy, and receive an excellent cardio workout. When not practicing through focused games and drills, swordsmen and women are welcome to challenge each other during an Open Strip session, when they’ll be able to fence until one side emerges victorious or foils are abandoned for a tiebreaking bout of one-on-one tag.
Established in 1982, Kennesaw State's athletics program first competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In the mid-90s, the Owls migrated to the NCAA, where they claimed 7 Division II championships in activities as diverse as men's basketball, cheerleading, and women's soccer. Just as a real owl hones its night vision until it stops stubbing its talons on branches, the school continued its ascent until it joined the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference, netting two national tournament appearances in women's soccer as well as championships in men's track and field and women's cross-country.
The Kennesaw Youth Football Association is an organized and competitive youth football and cheerleader program for children ages 5 - 12. We are a founding member of the Northwest Georgia Youth Football League (NWGYFL) which is made up of 20 youth football associations located in Cobb, Cherokee, Paulding and Douglas Counties
