Sixes Pit Bicycle Shop peddles in all things pedals; the shop sells, rents, and repairs bicycles. Customers in the market for a new bike can browse the selection of KTM models, including hardtail and full-suspension bikes. Those who just want a few hours of biking enjoyment can rent a Kona, KHS, or KTM, and children's sizes are also available. And people whose bicycles have boo-boos can bring them to Sixes Pit's technicians, who are on hand to perform an array of repairs, including adjustments, tire, pedal, and chain installations, and wheel trueing.

Skate Escape is a convenient bike and skate shop located at Piedmont Park’s 12th Street entrance. An Atlanta institution for decades, this casual, laid back shop feels like it was decorated by tween-aged skater boys, but it carries an impressive stock of products and a knowledgeable staff. Whether you’re in the market to buy a new bike or to rent skates, bikes, or gear for a day or two, the staff at Skate Escape will get you kitted out with whatever you need. If you’re new to riding or just have a casual interest, renting the basics offers you a chance to try different products before you commit to a purchase. There is limited parking at the shop, but get there early to score a spot in the lot or on the street, especially on Saturday mornings when the greenmarket is held in the park.

Escaping the heat becomes a priority for city dwellers in the summer, and the people of Atlanta have just such a refuge at Lake Chatuge. The two-hour-away locale boasts crystal-clear waters, a mountain backdrop, and Mountain Wake, a water sports shop that rents wakeboards, standup paddleboards, and flyboards to visitors.

if you're giving wakeboarding a try, the set-up includes a system in which participants are pulled 500 feet down the lake while holding onto a handle connected to a cable 20 feet off the water. Anyone new to the sport might want to try out a lesson first. And because Mountain Wake's coaches now stand on paddleboards to stay close to riders, beginners no longer have to ask their coach questions solely by tying a note around a seabird's foot. The staff also teaches people how to soar above the water or dive in and out of the waves like a dolphin during flyboard lessons.
