Ballroom instructor Jared Vigneault—recipient of the Top Teacher award at the 2012 Massachusetts DanceSport Challenge—draws from multiple dance degrees and eight years of ballroom experience as he works to infect his pupils with dance fever at Poise, Style & Motion. Along with a diverse cast of experienced instructors, he works to help students of all ages and abilities gracefully twirl across the dance floor through private and group lessons, social parties, and performances. They prepare their students to confidently cut a rug at dance clubs, weddings, competitions, and important business meetings with instruction in several styles. Their instruction range from the fast-paced footwork of swing and the merengue to the more stoic arts of the tango and waltz. To whip bodies into dance-athon shape, Poise, Style & Motion's instructors blend their fancy-footwork training with aerobics during their Latin-dance-inspired fitness classes. They also help dancers improve their endurance and pump up core muscles with modified merengue, samba, swing, and paso-doble dance steps.
Harvard Academy of Dance's encouraging movement masters foster dance skills and fitness training in amblers of all ages and agility levels. The three toe-tapping and core-tightening adult class options run on a weekday schedule, allowing participants weekends off to work on their inner six-packs. Customers looking to shed pounds with hip moves can participate in Zumba classes, which combine elements of Latin dance, aerobics, and offshore fishing techniques, and those wishing to expand strength and flexibility can opt for yoga. Alternately, Latin American salsa classes provide a sensual quick-stepping workout perfect for catching the peripherally masked eye of sword-wielding marauders.
Since 2004, HMSD has earned the reputation of one of the finest institutions of dance education in Southern Mass. The school's reputation, due in large part to Heidi's commitment to her students and families, has directly resulted in an extraordinarily devoted following of aspiring dancers and families.
A quick study in graceful movement, Peter Gelzhinsky competed in the finals at the USA National Dance Championship just three years after taking up the craft. Parlaying his quick learning into effective teaching methods, Peter now leads hot-footed hopefuls through lessons that cover such social ballroom dances as merengue, cha-cha, and the hustle. Students can also breakdance to the thumping beats of hip-hop classes, or sashay with a provided partner through the salsa-like steps of the bachata. Many students enlist in Star Dance School’s lessons in preparation for a wedding or the grand opening of a laundromat with a dance floor.
