As a child, Stephanie suffered from headaches, recurring sports injuries, and joint pain. She eventually discovered chiropractic treatments, which freed her from all that discomfort. That's also how she ended up becoming Dr. Stephanie Kern and working at ChiroSpa. She's still active now, and she hopes to pass along the benefits she's gotten from chiropractic medicine to others. She'll perform adjustments or just provide lifestyle advice for her clients, who range from pediatric patients to seniors looking to stay active. Dr. Kern also passes along her good luck by volunteering at 5K races and other community events.
At Fort Walton Beach Bowl, all 24 lanes light up like Christmas trees as sounds of pins crashing together and players hooting and hollering soothe the ears like a well-sung carol. For the last 17 years, the same family has kept these lanes glossy and fed the digital turkeys that live in the automatic scoring system. In between slinging pin-smashers, kids can sip on pop while grownups can share rounds from pitchers of beer, and on special nights, bowlers can sing karaoke.
Children at a birthday party with Nonie's Ark Animal Encounters might get to meet Jimmy, Jack, or Jill—but despite their deceptively human names, these guests are actually exotic animals. A naturalist and wildlife educator with a background in zoo-animal technology, Nonie encourages kids touch and sometimes hold live animals such as snakes, toads, chinchillas, and sugar gliders during hands-on interactive and educational presentations. Nonie has adopted and cared for each of these creatures, many of which were formerly unwanted pets. At some parties, Nonie also leads children in animal role-playing games like eating dirt cake and worms and doles out goodies such as safari helmets and outdoor toys.
Miller Cellars LLC's chief vintner and CEO Lynn Miller concocted her first batch of homemade wine in 2008, when she found a recipe for dandelion wine in Southern Living magazine. Ever since, she's worked tirelessly to improve her skills, and today, she shares them during hands-on classes that teach students how to make batches of wine and alcohol from scratch. Her business also provides yearly memberships, which grant aspiring vintners access to unlimited classes and discounted supplies.
Tiki Nelson broke into the photography business in sixth grade, when he and a friend, inspired by high school yearbooks, shot photos for their own grade school yearbook. Tiki generally sets his family photos and portraits in front of the stunning backdrop of Florida's beaches, but he also journeys to weddings and other events to capture memories with his camera.
