On York City Ice Arena's two 85'x200' NHL-sized rinks, both kinds of on-ice athletes live in harmony; hockey players compete in multiple tournaments every year, and figure skaters twirl with finesse during regular public-skating sessions. Instructors also host lessons for newcomers of all ages, helping students with their footwork, forward crossovers, and maintaining their balance while using one skate to pick their teeth. Beyond the twin tundra, the arena contains several amenities for casual visitors and persistent athletes, including a pro shop, snack bar, and fitness center.
At the Columbia Association, visitors find not only a place to work out, swim, or enjoy the great outdoors, but a place to connect with the local community and get to know their neighbors. Families take in live music by the lakefront during summer festivals, or glide across the ice at the public rink. Meanwhile, aspiring athletes build muscle, flexibility, and form with practice at indoor and outdoor tennis courts, or regular trips to the high-tech Columbia Gym. Columbia Association also helps its members maintain a healthy lifestyle with a wide variety of facilities, including nearby golf courses, 23 swimming pools, and even an attached horse center, where humans can learn to ride and horses can get in shape for swimsuit season.
Twin Ponds East—one of the Twin Ponds family rec center's two complexes—lies on the same location of an old farm and its ponds, where Mr. Patton and his brothers used to play ice hockey. Today, its two indoor ice rinks keep games going year-round, even when most hockey players migrate to Antarctica for the summer.
Twin Ponds West adds even more places to skate, including an NHL standard size rink, though hockey isn't the only thing on visitors' agendas. The rinks welcome figure skaters as well as the general public, who can also take classes to help them navigate the ice with ease. Additionally, Twin Ponds West provides space for other sports, including baseball, lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer on an indoor turf field.

Reisterstown Sportsplex seamlessly melds competitive fire and ice with a regulation NHL skating rink and a similarly spacious indoor field for lacrosse and soccer. Since opening in 2008, the facility has expanded to host both serious and recreational events, from birthday parties and broomball matches to figure-skating lessons and hockey leagues for all ages.
